Amazing what a good night's sleep and a long soak in the shower does for the soul. And the sinuses!

She read the first half of @scalzi.com's _When the Moon Hits Your Eye_ or Ben Winters' _The Last Policeman_ and decided to legislate as if it weren't fiction.

I'm not shocked that PSG are winning the Champions League final, but I'm surprised by how uncompetitive Inter are. If they can score a goal in the next couple of minutes it'll get a little shakier, but it's hard to imagine them scoring 3 in 20 minutes.

Yes. And h/t to @ianbassin.bsky.social for distinguishing "university leaders" from "universities." This are presidents and trustees doing this, maybe on the advice of risk-averse lawyers (and maybe not even that).

I can't even imagine trying to catalog the breaks I've gotten, which have let me seem like I was overperforming. I work hard, yes. Am I reasonably good at it? Sure. Am I that much better/busier than most other people? No. But I've had rewards and resources others are systemically excluded from.

Right. Bruce Springsteen and Beyonce were committing some kind of crime mumblesomethingmumble by supporting Kamala Harris, but a sitting Cabinet Secretary endorsing a fascist candidate is A-OK with them!

Just was thinking about that "we didn't vote to deport moms" lady that got picked up by ICE, and it's like ok fine, but you were OK with all the rest of the shit he said and you voted for that? Fuck off.

Worth reading the thread to see how she assembles the characters into a cast. In simplest terms, their position is, "We're rich and powerful but not rich and powerful enough, so we're going to blow up the world to get what we want."

Jeebus Wept. If whoever organized this event doesn't understand who Richard Hanania is, I hope somebody explains ASAbleepingP. His advice on how to "save the Democratic Party" will be to kill everyone except alt-right bigots.

Doctors at the CDC say children should receive Covid vaccines. A disgraced ex-environmental lawyer who spent 20 years abusing heroin says they shouldn't. For busy parents, it can be hard to know who to trust.

I learned about 10 years ago not to use clinical psych terms to describe shitty people because it excuses the shittiness and stigmatizes the mental illness. Elon Musk is the avatar of being both.

I'm not the first to make this point but in hopes the repetition helps. Elon Musk didn't fail to cut government spending because that was a lie. He succeeded wildly at two things: *Shredding programs and agencies he doesn't like *Redirecting billions of tax payer dollars into his own pockets

Rich old men have no idea what *anything* costs, much less supplies for new mothers. I wouldn't be surprised if they think, "Eh, it's $40, who'd miss it?" Clueless.

Yes, and this also means her "abortion is murder" stance is even sillier than it already was. She shouldn't oppose murder of any kind, for that matter, since we're all going to die anyway.

Jew-Hating Bigot nominates Jew-Hating Bigot to position he's supremely (see what I did there) unqualified for. #fixed

Today in Any Time I Don't Get My Way, It's a Political Attack against My Right Wing Ideology, Except That I Don't Have an Ideology Because I'm Objectively Correct about Everything.

Good point .

That's unfortunate. Five prominent Eagles, including Nick Siriani and Saquon Barkley, are rubbing elbows with this "Christian" slimeball.

When someone tells you who they are for the 37447547457474th time, believe them.

I mean, yes, it's a mess, but the CDC isn't the one making it. Hats off to their leadership for doing the not-eugenicist thing.

RSA Institute comrades! If you're in a union and have something for the Union Solidarity Wall, bring it to Cincy: as long as the union name/local are visible, doesn't matter what it is--t shirts, buttons, stickers, posters, flyers.... Eventually that whole wall will be covered, but not without YOU!

This piece, via @amandamarcotte.bsky.social (link in comments), chronicles Musk's history of silly promises. I'd add only the point that his excuse, that his ideas didn't work because we buffoons did it wrong, is the same as lots of Neoliberal technocrats. And it keeps working.

Yeah, this is super-creepy on top of its bigoty badness.

The party of law and order strikes again, by instructing agents to stop doing law enforcement and hide the fact that they're doing racist scapegoating for Stephen Miller's, ahem, onanistic fantasy.

None of what's here is new reporting, but the assemblage is helpful and convincing (if you need convincing), and if you don't, maybe it'll serve as motivation. Just read it. Thanks, @muellershewrote.com, for the work.

The terms aren't controversial until people spin up controversy. Not everyone does that out of explicit hate of trans and non-binary people, but when you concede this argument to haters, you give them cover. Also, if I misgender somebody, I WANT them to correct me. That's how we learn things.

By not debating it because there's nothing to debate, you bleeping bigots. The only reason it's a problem is because you pretend it is. The only right answer when some bigot talks about bathrooms is to point out their creepy obsession with other people's bodies, and tell them to bleep off.

Um "studies that don't exist" isn't a "formatting issue," you double-talking nitwit.

I was turned down by PhD programs at Ohio State, Pittsburgh, and Minnesota. I got rejected from the MA program at FSU but joined the program unmatriculated and got in the second time. I got turned down for BA outright from UNC and waitlisted at Georgetown and Northwestern. That wasn't so hard!

There aren't many phrases I'd like to see people get smited (but only in the most pacifist way) for using more than "activist judges" coming from whiny right wing bigots who lose court cases a third-grader could decide easily.
