Ok, this fucking rocks. Everyone should be able to use the bathroom when they're out and about.

" ... she had asked a boss if he would let his children fly on a plane with the litany of flaws and non-conformances he was urging her to “pencil-whip”: “Cindy, none of these planes are staying in America, they’re all going overseas,” he retorted, much to her horror. " prospect.org/economy/2025...

Not true. I see you're a luxury watch dealer. I'm also interested in watches. Let me show you how free and easy migration has allowed you to earn a living. 🧵

If you see this, quote post with a show with an awesome theme song youtu.be/OZ4c1X5ene8?...

Oh, new winner. Fucking hell.

I discovered yesterday, in a mass email sent at 3am, that I will not be receiving the roughly £40,000 that my publisher Unbound/Boundless owes me for pre-order sales of The Paradox Paradox. The payment for five years of work, gone. #unboundless

I learnt something today. Who wants to learn something?

Academia in 2025: For weeks I’ve been working through botched copy-edits of my monograph, outsourced by the publisher to a company I’d never heard of, until it finally dawned on me the terrible job might be AI. A quick search confirmed the company recently launched new AI software, which now means..

I need to quit Duolingo now it’s a useless AI nightmare, but I am very annoyed that it’s basically the only habit my broken brain has ever stuck with. I feel like this was my one shot at doing something consistently.

So, @sohotheatre.bsky.social Walthamstow is my new favourite theatre. Signs on the pavement so I’m not depending on my fabulous sense of direction! (And if the Regent’s Park Open Air is on here, I won’t try to tag them but they could learn from this.) A giant mirrorball in the foyer!

I’ve realised explaining that my joke *was* a joke to the people publicly asking “Was that a joke?” will absolutely not help. And also if you have to ask, maybe I’m wrong about it being a joke. But I was right about never wanting to join a book club, so I shouldn’t have answered bookclubby questions

Discworld QOTD, from Sourcery “It's vital to remember who you really are. It's very important. It isn't a good idea to rely on other people or things to do it for you, you see. They always get it wrong.”

Happy Murderbot Day!

Turns out standing for absolutely nothing just means you please absolutely no-one.

Going to see a musical about corn! (Hopefully) yay! The only slight worry is it’s at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre and I always end up wandering round the entire park trying to find the place. Wish me and my fabulous sense of direction luck!

A Quaker meeting house. A *Quaker meeting house.* My opinion of the Met can’t get any lower, but still. apple.news/AnDrDRVWzSyS...

Beloved f/sf author Diane Duane could really do with help for funeral expenses right now. See details below for how we can help:

The rule is

I just want to say, due to the Iceberg Effect, scandals are not a reliably way of vetting people for racism, misogyny, homophobia, etc. Scandals just pick up who got caught. A scandal is not a reliable index. (Also, using a plagiarism machine with demonstrable biases in these areas is stupid)

Yeah. Thread.

Gone 3am and brain spits out solution to fanfic question. Me: Awwww, I will make Favourite Character so happy. Me: I should not have gone back on the caffeine.

It’s not the only reason, more of a final straw, but I’m definitely not going to @seattlein2025.org now. I’m not even wistfully considering it in a “Hey, if I win the Euromillions…” way.

And I don’t want to go into detail, but today work had an email from a client saying [paraphrased] “I checked mathematical / legal thing with AI and it gave me a different answer to you. Is the AI wrong or are you?” And my answer was nearly “It is wrong and I quit.”

As if there weren’t enough reasons not to go to the US.

This statement about the transphobic Supreme Court ruling by the UK's Crab Museum (yes a museum about crabs) is better than 99% of the statements I've seen on the topic www.crabmuseum.org/visit 🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀

yeah there's a direct through line between this ruling and anyone who bought that hogwart's game that trans people got screamed at for suggesting we boycott

Tried to explain this to my mother after I went to the Trans Liberation demo at the weekend. Failed. Will try again and eventually she will have the surprised Pikachu face she had when she said she didn’t know why she voted for Brexit (Narrator: she knew) and it was all a terrible idea.

Megathread of pro-trans petitions on Parliament’s petition website. If Labour suddenly gets hit with debates for a bunch of pro-trans petitions, maybe they’ll realise this issue isn’t going away and they’ve fucked up. I’ll add more as I find them. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

Perfect joke except it’s lacking in alt text. The image is an advert for a Netflix film called The Two Popes.

I have watched the Murderbot trailer a normal amount of times.

Years ago I used to work in various theatre box offices. I didn’t have much to do with actors (because box office) but I did once speak to Lesley M who’s just won a big theatre award.

A pair of critically endangered, nearly 100-year-old Galapagos tortoises at the Philadelphia Zoo have become first-time parents.

Peeking at the partial solar eclipse through eclipse glasses (DO NOT LOOK AT THE SUN WITHOUT CERTIFIED ECLIPSE GLASSES) and it is awesome in the full, original sense of the word.

FYI: PIP (Personal Independence Payments) is not an out-of-work benefit. It exists to help people pay for the extra costs that come with disability. Cutting disability benefits won’t help people who are already working, and it won’t help people back into work.
