Everyone in LA is sharing this story on insta, and I just want to make sure non-Angelenos know about this bear that crawled under a house during the fires. He had to be lured out with rotisserie chickens. Read it. You deserve a little treat.

Dems always want to court the "decent" conservatives instead of fixing their own house. I spent most of my life in a deeply red area & this is true of them. They are devoted to the cause and will dutifully endure significant pain as long as they feel like "the enemy" is being made to suffer too.

Los Angeles is the very best, every day I am so grateful to live and work here.

All Drake had to do was ignore a minor shot at him and now a song calling him a pedophile just won Record of the Year at the Grammys.

Thanks to John Alexander for this. Check how much oil we get from Canada. Tariffs? Good game idiots.

I have so much love for my city

Last year I learned that contacting elected officials & government agencies can be very effective, if done in the right way. Generalized ranting is easily dismissed. Asking for a specific action is how you get results & accountability. Call & email about each issue, ask for a response. Here's how:

Committing child abuse and protecting child abusers is a large part of the ethos of the Christian Right. The argument that science data helps abused children most certainly will not move them.

This would be a terrible time to get sick. For all of us, we need our money for other things. But especially for trans people & immigrants, b/c interacting w/ healthcare systems usually involves giving up some privacy. Something we can all do to protect each other is wear a mask in public places.

I am pissed enough to change any of my spending habits that might support conservatives and their fucked up agenda.

I don't usually like eggs. For years I only bought eggs for baking and to cook for my dog. Now that everyone is talking about eggs constantly, literally all I want to eat is chilaquiles. Maybe throw in shakshuka once in a while. Pasta carbonara. Avgolemono. A frittata with tons of tarragon. wtf.

I very specifically do not want my elected officials to “work together” nor “find common ground” with Christofascists or Elon Musk and Peter Thiel. Amy Klobuchar is a boot-licking, spineless birdbrain.

The only positive thing that I know about Ken Martin so far is that Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and Hakeem Jeffries all endorsed his opponent.

Trying to resist the urge to look for current and former colleagues. The decision is made easier by the fact that some nincompoop made a list of "over 800 medical professionals" when writing this letter and they alphabetized it by first names. www.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

I would want to know

Billionaires and kleptocrats are pillaging and strip mining our government while elected officials clear the path and guard the gates for them. Spineless Capitol Hill Democrats can get fucked in 2026. Step up now or resign. Do not utter the word "bipartisan" again unless it's about impeachments.

All these words in the article but none of them are "judge shopping" and "corrupt judicial system"

The Framers foresaw this problem and figured legislators' ambition, self-preservation, and self-respect would drive them to act against a tyrant. The Framers didn't expect a majority of Congress would be cowards and fools who cheered it like pigs celebrating the arrival of the butcher.

Shout out to all the fuckwits who told me, two months ago, that scientists must strive to remain apolitical.

Look, I'm just going to say it: uselessly dumping a bunch of water that was going to be needed for the growing season in America's breadbasket: antichrist coded

Logging off for the afternoon to go knit in the sunshine, an activity which does more to oppose fascism than posting on Facebook, Instagram, X, or Substack.

Los Angeles - do this TODAY - call, email, and tell a friend Then do it again on Monday morning. www.laforward.org/who-represen...

what if we kissed under the constant imminent threat of societal collapse

Here we are, hurtling toward living in 1925 by the end of February.

It is a tragic day for science and healthcare -- the people who do the work, the people who depend on the work, and the disciplines themselves. What they are doing is the equivalent of burning libraries and institutes, vital knowledge accumulated over decades is being destroyed in minutes.

The entire website for the NIH Office of Research on Women's Health (ORWH) is very nearly stripped bare. This is so, so devastating. orwh.od.nih.gov/research/fun...

Can we pool the money we saved by canceling our LA Times subscriptions to to create a "Launch Pat Soon-Shiong Into the Sun" fund?

Some good news: California’s power plants burned 40% less fossil fuel for electricity last year compared to 2023, with battery storage doubled. “Every major renewable—geothermal, hydro, wind, solar in particular, even offshore wind—is lower cost than fossil fuels” grist.org/energy/calif...

Google spent billions of dollars on this shit.

I think it's a telling commentary on the state of the Democratic Party that the person widely regarded as the frontrunner in the DNC Chair race has zero labor endorsements.

The American people paid for this data to be collected. They are deleting work that is already completed and paid for just to impede science and harm people.

🚨 The CDC website is purging resources on LGBTQ+ health, diversity, equity, and health disparities. This is not just a bureaucratic change. It’s a dangerous decision with profound negative public health consequences. Let’s break down the harm this will cause. 🧵⬇️

I am a healthcare provider. One of the main reasons I moved to California was to be part of a system that provides comprehensive healthcare, including gender-affirming surgeries, abortions, and elective permanent sterilization. Our work locally and advocacy nationally will continue undeterred.

Just finished casting on stitches for a blanket and the whole time I was thinking "I would so happily pay someone to do just the cast-on." I don't know why I hate doing it so much. (The only thing I hate more is having to re-count a foundation chain when I'm crocheting.) #knitsky

If I could only have one vinegar, that would be silly. But it would be an aged Spanish sherry vinegar.

Last quarter Meta generated $14.25 per person who used at least one of their apps, and I find it somewhat insulting that the price of American democracy feels rather cheap at an individual level. Anyway I deleted my Meta accounts and will be treating myself to a $15 cocktail in the near future
