Epic thread, this.

RIP Kevin Drum, a good soul and great practitioner of truly independent public thought and opinion. Say hi to Inkblot and give him a scratchy for me, good sir.

Meanwhile, in the WaPo newsroom, "“Text will no longer be a default and length no more a measure of quality." Okay. Buh bye. Lemme know how that works out for you.

I am truly saddened. "Buffy" like -- damn it, everything -- is complicated now, but it played a big role in the social life of my friends and I in its time, and we enjoyed every minute of the work of the stellar cast. RIP Michelle.

David Shipley could have quit WaPo with honor in November. Now, no job and only a very little honor. Sad.

Tee hee. Snort.

In light of everything happening, I wrote about how the KKK in the 1920s felt unstoppable, about the people that fought against them anyway, and about how fascism always fails. dansinker.com/posts/202…

End of an era. Bond under Barbara Broccoli was like a Maison in old luxury, a handcrafted product of personal vision. Some I liked, some I didn't, but it ended strong with Craig. I don't begrudge her taking the money and selling the stress but it ends my interest. deadline.com/2025/02/jame...

Can we now agree that @lioneltrolling.bsky.social won the fascism debate?

"To live in this process is absolutely not to be able to notice it—please try to believe me ... How is this to be avoided, among ordinary men, even highly educated ordinary men? Frankly, I do not know. I do not see, even now." " press.uchicago.edu/Misc/Chicago...

I'm still in Williamsburg, oh God I thought I'd be out of here by now...

Out and about in Williamsburg. Class semiotics are dense here... we must be careful.

Les Demoiselles d'Avignon really is All That. I can't stop thinking about it.

I'm not OK. That's it. Nothing more. Just felt like something I need to acknowledge.

So my work Gmail now has stupid AI that covers my cursor with a "polish" prompt. And I always think "That's cool. But you have me confused with Jenny @silenceinpolish.bsky.social. I don't think translating this into Polish will help." Then I realize it means polish, not Polish. Happens EVERY TIME.

Side note fom the apocalypse-- I was startled to learn USAID HQ had a SCIF. On reflection, I was naive to be startled, but I'd just never thought about it. Which is almost certainly the point.

They will always -- always -- betray their oaths, their former values, and their own honor. Jodi Ernst will betray female service members. Tom Cassidy will betray doctors and patients. They are as terrified as French Aristos during the Terror and will betray anyone to save themselves.

Virginia Oppssum -- I love these guys, any marsupial tough enough to move north in the teeth of the placental is OK by me. Respect.

Nice article on the trails at Monocacy NRMA. Rehabilitating and opening these trails has been one of the most rewarding projects in my career. www.capitalgazette.com/2025/02/01/j...
