Greens Sturt launch 🚀 today. We are in the fight of our lives. To keep Dutton out. To push for the things we need: dental into Medicare, free GP visits, wipe student debt, enviro laws, cap rents, end grocery gouging. Sturt Greens out big time. SA Greens, you rock. Go @katiemccusker. #auspol #greens

So proud to stand with our Greens candidate for Sturt, the wonderful Katie McCusker. We’re all full of enthusiasm for tonight’s campaign launch. Come and join us and help keep Dutton out!

Australian Retailers are mounting an attack on workers entitlements at the Fair Work Commission. If you value your penalty rate, holiday pay, overtime and meal breaks then collective action is the best way to protect your rights at work.

This is the guy the big parties want us to share AUKUS nuclear powered subs with. Who turns on a dime to attack allies without conscience or truth, rewriting events, careless of all the lives lost & wounded by a tyrant leading an illegal invasion. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-02...

‘For years, Donald Trump’s servility to Vladimir Putin was dismissed as mere vanity or venality, an eccentric quirk of a reality-show president. Now, it is clear that the takeover is complete. On Monday, Trump spit endless insults at Ukraine and its leader while praising Putin without limit.’

Whyalla is essential to our sovereign steel making capability. We need a long term industry plan - and short term protection for workers & local creditors. Any further public $$ should result in public equity. Time for public investment to build a steel industry supply chain.

The Greens are the only party determined to make big corporations pay their fair share so Australians can get the services they need. We won't let Dutton get away with cuts to the APS or give public money to his private consultant mates who are waiting in the wings. #auspol

Great to see industry super calling for super for under 18's. The Greens have long been calling for this, it’s time for Labor to stop dragging the chain on worker’s rights. Super for under 18's means we can set young people up for a more secure retirement & recognise their valuable contribution.

About to go live on ABC News 24 with Patricia Karvelas debating the news of the day with Michael McCormack.

We still have a long way to go in holding the people responsible for the failures of Robodebt, to account - starting with the 57 recommendations by the Royal Commission. It's a public administration catastrophe too damaging to be swept under the rug. #robodebt #auspol

My consultants op-ed today in @canberratimes.bsky.social www.canberratimes.com.au/story/889182... Investigations into PwC haven't even been completed & we are already seeing the consultants lining up to pitch for the outsourcing of government work to continue - it's not the solution.

Robodebt. The worst scandal in public sector history. Over 400,000 Australians hit with false debts, ruining lives. We must learn the lessons and make sure it never happens again. @pennyallmanpayne.com and I on the job.

A year ago Peter Dutton promised to take away the Right to Disconnect if he got into government. Well let's hope that doesn't happen because millions of Australian workers are benefiting right now from reduced unpaid overtime, particularly workers under 29.

⏰BREAKING ⏰ Our Green's Right to Disconnect amendment to workplace laws has reduced unpaid overtime by a third - from 5.5 hrs/wk to 3.6. Dutton plans to roll back. All wrong. That would add 100 minutes unpaid overtime to the average working week. #auspol

We need to back in our South Australian wine growers. They are up against some huge wine makers, and we need a mandatory code to ensure they are getting a fair deal. #auspol #wine

Today I met with Karma Singey, Rep. of the Dalai Lama & Mr Tenzin Lekshay, Senior Official and Spokesperson of the Tibetan Government in Exile to discuss, amongst other issues, the devastating earthquake impacting Tibet. Our thoughts and support continue to be with the Tibetan people.

All cutting APS jobs will do is fill consultant's coffers. It won't save money and it won't improve service delivery. It's just handing over public money to big business. Dutton is copying straight from the Trump handbook. #auspol #consultants

Dutton's 'Long-Lunch' policy is dangerous and misguided. The cost to the budget is unknow and could be astronomical, the benefits are questionable and the propensity for misuse are real. We got rid of this shonky tax break decades ago. Why bring it back now?

Trans people don't need the uninformed opinion of their local MP, they need informed healthcare & the same rights, protections & services as everyone else. Trans people deserve freedom from hatred, judgement & bigotry.

Australia is not like America. We won't tolerate the oligarchy of billionaires running our government, paying no tax and laughing all the way to the bank. Dutton mimics all of Trumps policies including to sack public servants and give the work to consultants at 3 times the cost.

At a briefing from Jobs & Skills Australia who keep incredible workforce statistics studying trends in participation, productivity and equity. Their latest report highlights the benefits of diversity and inclusion policies flying in the face of the current Dutton/Trump rationale.

A spine chilling moment from Donald Trump to Michaelia Cash promising strong-man leadership from Dutton. Trump's tariff announcements mean trouble for the global economy and it's the workers and consumers in every country who will pay with job losses and higher prices.

Getting ready to live with PK and Matt Canavan on Afternoon Briefing g on ABC News 24!

When Dutton appointed Jacinta Price as spokesperson on Government Waste he forgot he already had one in James Stevens the Member for Sturt. As Bernard Keane points out - they could start the efficiency drive by abolishing each others' jobs!

Looks like employers are doing Dutton’s bidding with their attacks on conditions for retail workers which would allow big supermarkets & others to strip penalty rates and rostering restrictions from their workers. Let’s see if Dutton follows Trump’s lead & scraps the Fair Work Commission altogether!

There go workers’ rights under Trump. Delivering for the $$oligarchs. open.substack.com/pub/robertre...

Gender affirming care saves the lives of trans & gender diverse young people. What is happening in Queensland is wrong - and devastating for so many young people & their families. Health care like this should rely on health advice from experts - not ignorant, weaponising, opportunist politicians.

It's simply astonishing that former PwC CEO Luke Sayers still qualifies for a PwC pension at $140,000 per year average, while he led the firm during the tax scandal that wrecked the PwC's reputation internationally. Will there ever be repercussions for this behaviour?

@cathywilcox.bsky.social calling it

This man now has an office in the White House. (And I don’t mean the pissing kid.)

Time for truth telling and justice. Beautiful Mourning in the Morning Ceremony in Adelaide early today. So many First Nations people, families, kids sharing culture, history, language and hope for a more just future - that acknowledges our history.

‘The damage Donald Trump and his nihilist cronies can do – to America, but also to its democratic allies, and to the peace and security of the world – is incalculable. We are living in the time of Nero.’ open.substack.com/pub/robertre...

Cancel AUKUS. It compromises our sovereignty. The subs are not going to arrive. There’s no waste solution. It sucks millions from the things we actually need - and can be delivered: essential health, dental, well funded public schools, early childhood education and care.

Great piece by Greg Jericho. ‘If we as a society are unwilling to either reward politicians who try to improve the system or punish those who vote to keep the system unfair, then we are sentencing our nation to worse inequality and a much more fractured society ruled by vested interests and fear.’

Every year Uncle Moogy and First Nations leaders offer this powerful opportunity to reflect on truth, healing & our history. This Sunday: mourning in the morning. 7.30am at Tarntanya Wama / Elder Park on the banks of Karrawirra Patti / River Torrens in Adelaide.

With Trump now assuming charge of the US, it's time for Australia to have a sober reassessment of our part in AUKUS. It's gravely concerning that for so long, successive Australian governments have contracted out so much of Australia’s defence & foreign policy to the US.

Dutton's pledge to fund long lunches with the boss shows he has no idea about what workers actually want. Wages rises and rent caps would be a good place to start in a cost-of-living crisis.

The signs are up at the office for the 2025 Tour Down Under. Say NO to gas & Santos! Say YES to cycling! The Tour Down Under needs a new sponsor - one that doesn't cause oil spills, that pays tax and that doesn't profit from fuelling the climate crisis. #TourDownUnder

Pure fantasy from the coalition wanting to reform superannuation. On the cusp of raising the guarantee to 12% they want to reduce it back to 9% and somehow turn the 3% gap into a wage rise. Please explain?

Dutton is making a big target of public service jobs but look what happened last time - they spent $20 billion on outsourcing to the private sector to do the same work at twice the cost! Dutton will bring the big consultant’s snouts back to the trough. #auspol

‘2024 was the hottest year in recorded history. With temperatures rising around the globe & the oceans unusually warm, scientists are warning that the world has entered a dangerous new era of chaotic floods, storms & fires made worse by human-caused climate change.’ www.nytimes.com/2025/01/10/c...

‘Politics is the entertainment division of the military industrial complex'. Thanks Frank Zappa. It feels like this a lot.

Matt Golding nails it.

This week at Politics in the Pub we heard how Australian politics is not like the US. We have real alternatives to the major parties captured by billionaires. Watch this clip or see the whole thing at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2Um...

Oh dear. www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/ac...

Winter in America. Malibu is on fire. 🔥 Message to the big parties: stop authorising new fossil fuel projects - and burning down our kids future.

Here's a clip from an event we held in Adelaide this week to talk about the impact of a Trump led America on Australia's political landscape. You can watch the whole thing on YouTube: youtu.be/A2UmEUJ-9M0?...

Oh that’s a shock. Turning health and care over to private profit cuts the quality of care. Great for profit but. www.nbcnews.com/news/investi...
