The difference between “persuasion” and “coercion”. How Canadian is it to shake someone down for their lunch money? So often, emotion works. Let’s use our brains this time.

"I want to end with two of the most beautiful insurrectionary sentences I know... "They tried to bury us, but they didn't know we were seeds." "They can cut down the flowers but they can't stop the spring." Be seeds, be the spring. Be the insurrection. Be civil society. Be what happens." 🌱🌼🗽🥊

A photo from the #handsoff rally at Town Point Park Norfolk, Virginia published in La Monde Diplomatique. I am honoured that you want me to run for president but it probably would get me sent to an El Salvador prison. Solidarity from our side of the border. #elbowsup friends.

The Trump regime sent Ukrainian refugees an email telling them to leave the country, then backtracked and called it an error. This isn’t the only instance of these “errors”, it’s fear propaganda and it is designed to discourage, intimidate, or confuse the target. It’s 100% intentional.

Yes, impressive indeed. And we all have American friends who are trying to stand up to the takeover of their once-democratic country by government morons and broligarchial asshats, and we Canadians applaud and support their efforts. Well done. Carry on fighting! 🗽 #HandsOff #ElbowsUp 🍁

It hurts

If you think this can’t happen, remember that of the 125,000 Japanese Americans who were interned during WWII for years without charge or trial, two-thirds were U.S. citizens. Including me.

"If my grey matter is to be up to the task [of nuanced moral reasoning], it needs exercise - needs to put in the work, wrestle with the grey." Lyrical, thoughtful and timely. On Binaries & the Beauty of Grey open.substack.com/pub/britgrif...

Nearly an hour well spent. Enhances understanding while challenging preconceived ideas. Loved the section on Wexit.

"On March 23, 15 bodies were found in a mass grave, their hands and feet tied. They had been killed execution style. Their vehicles were crushed by bulldozers and buried to hide the evidence. They were paramedics responding to a call to help the wounded." Keep kicking, Charlie. And Ted.

Indeed, it's the PEOPLE who are going to have to demand that democracy prevails. Very impressed by the number of Americans who stood in solidarity and said NO. #HandsOff OUR country. Well done! May the fight continue. 🥊🗽👊

Sorry not sorry

Ignorance, allied with power, is the most ferocious enemy justice can have. - James Baldwin

The Cons are treating us like idiots. And, unfortunately, some will buy in. For Canada? They do nothing FOR anyone but themselves.

My latest conversation with Poilievre. While Canadians rally to defend our nation, MAGA MAPLE Danielle Smith and Preston Manning are threatening to break up our country. Unless we vote for Poilievre. Playing the quisling card never ends well. #elbowsup www.youtube.com/shorts/BxXaw...

Who said Germans aren't funny?

‘Trump's so-called "Liberation Day" is one where an unhinged billionaire plunged his nation and the world into economic chaos.’ Are they great yet?

Absolutely. But if you're MAGA stay home.

This speaks volumes.

CBC Kids News asked each party leader for words of advice to children. What did they have to say? First up is Prime Minister Mark Carney, Liberal Party of Canada.

Thread of "one of these things is not like the other" and really, it's extraordinary, you'd swear it was a bit on This Hour Has 22 Minutes.

BH Barb H. about 2 hours ago If looking for similarities between the way politics are conducted in Alberta and to the south, look no further than the role grievance politics plays. The current claim that a vote for Carney is a vote to trigger a national unity crisis is a perfect example.

Incidentally, did you know that cats are book lovers? Well, technically, book-lover lovers. I cat-sit quite often, and my charges like nothing better than snuggling on my lap or right up against me as I read a book for an hour, while giving them frequent pets. 🐈 📚 Okay, back to the topic at hand 👇

He’s right. Not for the reason he thinks.

In the ‘70s, a worker in the GM engine plant earned more than a teacher with a master’s degree (I know, they were both in my family). How many single incomes could support a family now? Excellent video.

Unfortunately, this is no joke: In the same week that Smith spent public funds on a trip to Florida to hang out with right-wing extremists, the UCP cut funding for snacks provided to kids undergoing cancer treatment. The UCP is incompetent, unethical, and cruel.

"If Trump has done anything for us, it was to wake us up and make us understand the danger of being mere observers at this time in history."

Worth sharing again.

On the outside chance that anyone on the political right is open to critical thought:

When they tell you what they’re gonna do ... maybe you should listen.

Duane Bratt says Smith "promised a national unity crisis if Carney wins”, and repeated this on her radio show yesterday. The tail wagging the dog. Phone your MLA. Express your opinion of her performance. Keep in mind you’ll probably be speaking to hired help. Don’t forget how to talk with people.

Geez, you’re not suppose to wash your robes and your MAGA hat in the same load!

He isn’t someone I usually watch. But here’s where we should all make an exception. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HS0p...

"Poilievre has wrapped the role of opposition leader around himself like a cloak and he wears it well. ... It’s much harder to build consensus and implement change. Can he do that?" Please read the attached Substack by Margaret Shkimba. It’s thoughtful, accessible and repost-worthy.
