I thought blue sky would be better than meta but it's just the same options of an algorithm feeding me digital "the end is nigh" sign waving, or the people I follow reposting the same-just with more substack links. Maybe I'm just one of those silly folks who want solutions to go with the problems.

Yesterday my wife injured her foot on one of the many defective rusty doorstops in our home. In an act of uncharacteristic masculinity this morning I woke up before her and the kids, grabbed a screwdriver, removed these hazards, ordered replacements and was hailed a god. 🧵

Slacker.

The default Dem position should be that nothing under Trump is valid. Trump didn't honor his predecessors' agreements. He didn't even honor his own trade agreements. He didn't honor Congressional appropriations. He doesn't follow laws. Clean slate. If you rely on him, your loss.

Homeowner pro tip: If your home feels like an organizational disaster, go to your friend with the best organized garage and say you want to copy them. When they give you a shopping list don't get creative. Put your tools away. Label the drawers. Fix the shelves that should hold your 'floor pants'.

I think the real line between "pro" and "prosumer" gear is whether somebody - maybe you - are ready to maintain it as a full time job. After a decade of soul searching, I accept I'm a Mac/HP/Bambu guy. I'm tired of endless troubleshooting. I want to have fun again.

What is it that compels a man to google "Bob Ross: After Dark"? Sadly it came up empty, but for a moment I think none of us were truly sure.

May I never become so cruel and foolish that upon news of my passing not only will I know people will dance in the streets, but also which props they'll be gleefully brandishing.

Yes but can they be convinced to perform it live?

"I could never be a surgeon, I'd only make things worse," is a strange sentence because on one hand it sounds like depression but on the other I don't think med school can fix being accident prone.

Today I play in my first official FIDE chess tournament. I do things like show up on time, treat kids like people, and print out little official rule books to help resolve disputes. I also have random lanyard kits lying around. So now I'm also an official assistant director of this event. 😃 😳 ♟️ 🏆

If any of my kids (all biological and currently cohabiting) ever say I'm not their real father I'm going to ask whether they know which of us fills out my sainthood application.

The proper reply to such letters is... "Your inquiry is noted. We decline to engage in politically motivated theatrics disguised as oversight."

Oh look, it's the imperious forces of Planet Spaceball.

I've been trying to word this properly for a while now and this is the closest I've gotten - authoritarianism is most effective when blind obedience promises safety. The US is explicitly making no such guarantees. For every single American, a traffic stop now brings the risk of being disappeared.

I'm having unsettling Jonestown vibes from this bit specifically. Let's hope this "fact finding mission" goes better 😬
