WATCH: The gloves are off! It’s been an under-reported scandal for quite a while that Pierre Poilievre refuses to apply for security clearance. It was a scandal EVEN BEFORE the most recent efforts to undermine Canada’s democracy, sovereignty and economy from Trump, Musk and the GOP. Share this.

It should terrify everyone that a green card holder was black bagged and disappeared to Louisiana simply for having opinions this administration dislikes. They're building the prisons and camps to do it to citizens. The time to stand up to this is now.

If you’re outraged by what the Trump regime is doing, but not this… you may need to rethink who you really are as a person.

Joyeuse journée internationale des femmes. La SCEE a la chance de compter de nombreuses femmes qui dirigent notre société et font du Canada un chef de file mondial en recherche écologique et évolutive

Happy International Women’s Day! CSEE is fortunate to have many women who lead our society and are making Canada a world leader in ecological and evolutionary research

Massive gratitude and respect to all the incredible women I am so fortunate to work with on International Women’s Day. From my incredible boss Lisa Kalynchuk, to my collaborators, friends, employees, and trainees. You are all extraordinary!

La SCEE est solidaire avec nos ami(e)s et collègues aux États-Unis dans leur défense de la science

CSEE stands in solidarity with our friends and colleagues in the United States in Standing Up for Science

Please read and consider signing on to 🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦

As President of the Canadian Society for Ecology and Evolution @csee-scee.bsky.social I wish to convey our strong support for this letter (which we have signed on to) and our colleagues and allies in the U.S. We stand with you and are here for you. Science is not a partisan issue. It benefits all.

IMPORTANT: If you live in the United States or Canada, you’ve probably heard Trump‘s constant claim that the United States is “subsidizing” Canada. It’s wrong of course, but here’s the best explanation I’ve seen about how & why it’s wrong. PLEASE WATCH & SHARE IT A LOT. Kudos to Andrew Chang & CBC.

Just sayin’…

Climate change is an environmental issue – but it’s not only an environmental issue. It affects our health, and the economy. It impacts food, water, and resources. It contributes to geopolitical instability and even conflict. Here are the Canadian scientists who study this.

The “cover” of today’s Globe & Mail, Canada’s national newspaper. #StrongAndFree

Trudeau giving Americans a much more accurate State of the Union.

As my friend @drshepherd2013.bsky.social says, asking why we need a National Weather Service when we have apps and the Weather Channel is like asking why we need potato farmers when we can buy fries at McDonalds.

Resist 💪

Repost & like, if you stand with President Zelensky!

I feel this viscerally. Doing the work comes at a cost (time, emotional, and yes sometimes professional relationships and reprimands - I’ve had these as recently as last year in my department). Find the courage to do it anyway. Because it’s the right thing to do.

Universities that advertised their commitment to diversity in glossy brochures & fundraising campaigns now face a reckoning: was it real or just marketing? The admin bets they’ll stay silent to keep their funding. But the cost of inaction will be far greater. greencarelab.ucdavis.edu/how-universi...

American friends, Looking for an escape? Why not come up and convene with us in Quebec this summer at the Canadian Society for Ecology and Evolution meeting. We’re friendly and would love to have you join us. 🐸🦅🐟🌳🌊🦀🐝🌻🦋💻🥼🔬🤿🧪

Canadian ecology and evolution friends, you can now register for @csee-scee.bsky.social’s 2025 meeting! It is going to fantastic and we look forward to gathering together. 🍁🇨🇦🍁

What better time than now to choose @csee-sceemtgs.bsky.social for this year's conference trip 🇨🇦 see you in Sherbrooke, QC!

What to tell your trainees, your students, your teams, and yourselves, when you feel the doubt and darkness encroaching: your work is under attack *because it matters* Keep at it.

'science should, as a community, organise itself to maximise its ability to act collectively, ethically and – when necessary – politically.’ The scientific community needs to speak up – not just for the sake of science, but of human decency, dignity & morality www.chemistryworld.com/opinion/scie...

Your weekly reminder that Canada is a strong, proud, independent nation. (I can’t believe this even needs to be said but it does). 🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦

Love this 👇

Hey American friends. As Canada's PM says, "we have fought and died alongside you during your darkest hours." Now your president wants to break us. Your best neighbour and ally. Where's your outrage? Your media mostly talks about the threat to your bottom line.

An unprovoked economic attack, intent on crushing US’s historically closest ally. If you can, please buy 🇨🇦 and 🇲🇽 products. & keep up the calls to your senators and reprentatives in 🇺🇸! www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

Seems a good time to reiterate that trans rights are human rights. 🏳️‍⚧️

We are not giving up.

American liberals are getting far too comfortable joking about how much of a disaster invading Canada would be Yes, for *Canadians.* It would be incomprehensibly horrifying! I'm having trouble seeing even the gallows humour here. We aren't a punchline

Our new paper on seabed carbon protection has been picked up by CBC TV News here in BC and they have made this great little feature - Work from a research partnership between UVic, OceansNorth & DFO - www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1Vs... @baumlab.bsky.social @uvic.bsky.social @uvicscience.bsky.social

Excited to share our new www.bluecarboncanada.ca paper, led by stellar postdoc @grahamepstein.bsky.social and conducted in partnership with Oceans North and DFO. #naturebasedsolutions

I like to say I respect despair as an emotion but not an analysis. As an analysis it assumes we know what can and can't happen, and the future is both uncertain and at least to some extent what we make of it. Plus why would I give them what they want, as premature surrender? Thanks Senator Schatz.
