This little bird survived a volcanic eruption! Buried by volcanic ash from Vesuvius in AD 79, this Roman fresco of a little bird pecking at fruit re-emerged looking as delightful as it did some 2,000 years ago! Villa Poppaea, Oplontis, Italy 📷 by me 2023 #Archaeology

Forever ago, I returned home from a roadtrip with a stack of salvaged cabinetry doors. “Happy birthday! Aren’t they great?” I didn’t know they’d become our photo backdrop, but I knew they were special. #upcycle #salvage

Sgraffito with local clay slip

A great starter pack for museums!

We throw these guinomis /small cups off the hump and each one is a quick possibility of exploration, still containing every consideration of form- rim, body and foot. If a new glaze test seems promising on a test tile, we try it on a guinomi to see what it looks like on an actual pot.

Nice batch

Here’s my first post. Thanks for following me! I love my clay community and beyond!

Is #teapottuesday a thing on here yet? I love this one- currently it’s in Salt Lake City getting all ready for the NCECA teapot show- who else’s teapots will I see there? #clay #porcelain #ceramics #teapot

Anthony owner of Schaller Gallery picked up this pitcher and a bunch of other pots this last weekend for upcoming shows. It was great to have a chance to at least briefly hangout. #facepots #figurativeceramics #figurativepottery

Working out some bottles and liquor sets inspired by flowers. I had so much fun exploring the flower lids, I think I have amassed 3 different lids for each bottle. As usual, I’m crossing fingers that they look as good after glazing as they do in my head. 🤞 #pottersofbluesky

Few fired sgraffito cat mugs, three of which are heading to new homes in Canada 🇨🇦 pretty soon

My carving process involves many steps and much patience. The detail round toward the end, when dental tools make their appearance, is always my favorite.

I was asked to remake a mural that I made 25 years ago for the NY Subway system (Sheepshead Bay station in Brooklyn). As an artist, it's good to keep notebooks with processes, techniques and glaze recipes... thank you to my younger self for doing this!
