“More than a prison, El Salvador’s CECOT has many if not all the hallmarks of a concentration camp." talkingpointsmemo.com/where-things...

This is a WILD list of data to disappear. I was braced for climate stuff, but not, like, shoreline maps and coastal bathymetry

Same question most of us have been asking for months...

Even if Bondi is right (she’s not), it doesn’t change the facts: • he was deported to El Salvador erroneously and in violation of a judge’s order • SCOTUS has ordered that the administration facilitate his return • they’re ignoring that order • one phone call to Bukele and he’s on the next plane

yes! this dude will back down to anyone who tells him to fuck himself! this is the only response worth having!

A story about law

Its crazy how over their skis theyre getting on this

Literally “if you ask us to prove he’s a terrorist, then maybe YOU are a terrorist!”

I don’t share this interpretation. Rule 42 seems to me perfectly clear that the judge not only can, but must, make sure a prosecuting attorney takes up any criminal contempt case he’s given notice of. www.federalrulesofcriminalprocedure.org/title-viii/r...

this is just a horrible, pathological liar. we know that. but they know they've lost the public on this one. the escalation is the giveaway

If they had any evidence of either, they would not have needed to kidnap him, traffic him to a foreign prison, and do everything possible to deny him due process. There's no evidence he has committed any crime or has any affiliation with any gang. Literally none. Hence their actions.

“One of the top MS-13 members”? This woman is an officer of the court and the Attorney General of the United States. She knows that she wields immense power and responsibility. Yet here she is on national TV, making baseless claims about a guy her boss wrongly sent to a gulag in El Salvador.

absurdly corrupt www.ajc.com/news/nation-...

Looks like the evidence for this weird chemical abundance in an exoplanet atmosphere has gotten stronger with new JWST data: www.nytimes.com/2025/04/16/s... Is it really a sign of life? That’s still not clear; lots of analysis left to do. But it’ll be interesting to see how it all pans out! 🧪 🔭

This is as loathsome an expression of ablism as I have ever seen: RFK Jr. is a child of great privilege and he's using his good fortune to spurn an entire group of people as untermensch, "life unworthy of life"

delusional. he’s 2 years old tops.

The Trump admin is operating as if unconstrained by law or courts. As @anthonylfisher.bsky.social argues, that’s different from Trump’s 1st term, which broke some rules but were constrained by others. We’ve never before seen a White House team act without concern of impeachment or criminal charges.

worth reiterating that in literally any other context a 10% tariff on Japan alone would be getting wall to wall financial news coverage, would be considered the largest trade war escalation in modern American history and the dumbest economic policy move by a President in decades

If you are a Republican wanting a photo-op you get a VIP visit to the prisons. If you are a Dem asking about someone wrongly jailed, you are turned away.

A couple thoughts on this: 1. It violates the law. In 1998, Congress explicitly provided that the President could not, directly or indirectly, request that the IRS start or end an audit or other investigation of a taxpayer. www.taxnotes.com/research/fed... 1/

‘Federal law prohibits the president from “directly or indirectly” telling the I.R.S. to conduct specific tax investigations.’ www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/...

This is it, folks. Far larger than Harvard itself, as large as Harvard is. Every nonprofit from the center leftward is on notice for potential destruction.

The projection is off the charts here

Honestly I'm glad they picked Harvard to try out this novel "we're mad" legal theory of revoking tax-exempt status, given its infinite resources, deep network of powerful alumni, and law school attended by 142 sitting federal judges. Good luck! 🫡

Federal agencies now only exist to litigate the president's personal grievances

“I can…assure you that were this a Republican president…targeting Democrats, I at least would speak out just as vigorously against it because if we are going to respect rule of law, the apparatus of the federal government cannot and should not be used as a partisan tool to bludgeon your enemies."

Most revealing thing abt the trade front. EU trade chief left Monday's meeting in DC not just without making any progress. He couldn't get a clear idea of what the US even wanted. www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...

JVL asks the key questions: I know what it is like to lose your job because you won’t do what powerful people want. I understand how scary that is and not saying it’s easy. For most people, refusing to be complicit in evil will be the hardest test they ever face. open.substack.com/pub/thebulwa...

A liberal is a neoconservative who has been mugged by reality

Is Kilmar Abrego Garcia alive? Because the amount of resistance to addressing his being trafficked gives the distinct impression that either he is dead or what they have done to him is so unspeakable that they cannot afford for him to be freed, seen, or spoken with.

The Trump administration isn't exporting our problems to Bukele's El Salvador. It's importing their principles. From today's @morningjoe-msnbc.bsky.social:

While Trumpism has it own origins, it is unquestionably true that it is the conservative legal movement/FedSoc etc. which imported foreign ideas into the fabric of American law and created the idea, now pervasive in the American judiciary that the President is presumptively able to violate ...

This is the first habeas petition to directly seek the release of a Venezuelan detained at CECOT.

A third top Pentagon official, Colin Carroll, chief of staff to the deputy secretary of defense, has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation www.cnn.com/2025/04/16/p...

It's worth watching Sen. Van Hollen's video. The VP of El Salvador wouldn't even give him proof of life or a timeframe when he could return and visit with Abrego Garcia.

Sen Van Hollen met with El Salvador's Vice President FĂŠlix Ulloa, who told him that the reason they are holding Kilmar Abrego Garcia at CECOT is because the Trump admin is paying them to do so. They also provided no evidence that Abrego Garcia is part of MS-13 or committed any crimes.

paulkrugman.substack.com/p/why-trump-...

They've called him a human trafficker, a violent criminal, a convicted gang member... and they refuse to give you even a SINGLE piece of evidence! Bondi even suggests here ALL they have is the gang worksheet from 2019 filled out by a disgraced cop caught selling secrets for sex!

It works. The government here largely works. Because we are so spoiled by how well it works, we are letting a fool convince us it is broken.

I tried to get Jack to stand down. Look how that turned out.

Ive been reporting on DOGE as much as almost anyone else. But I had some conversations yesterday that were still illuminating and jarring. A strong, strong Webistics vibe is the only way I can describe it: hyped up, time-pressured demands to hit very specific dollar goals for canceled contracts.

I worked in a prison just across the Ohio River from West Virginia & can tell you exactly why WV has reduced its recidivism rate so much (and, thus, its overall crime rate which is among the ten lowest in the country): unlike most red states, they've funded & bolstered their prison college program

deeply suspicious of political fandom (even/esp for ppl i like) but AOC is really fuckin' something, man. The fact that she lost a cmtee chair to a 70-year-old is fucking malpractice. it's like having Cade Cunningham on your bench and sending Mike Conley Jr out for 45 mins/game.

The court transcripts simply include the government's assertions, similar to the ones Bondi is making here. There was no actual evidence presented, because he never had a hearing much less a trial.

1. Truth Social, Trump's social media platform, announced an audacious scheme yesterday to profit from Trump's tariffs Truth Social will offer actively-managed INVESTMENT ACCOUNTS composed of stocks in companies who benefit from Trump's policies It's a jaw-dropping conflict of interest

Pam Bondi is a liar, propagandist and criminal accomplice. Kilmar Abrego Garcia never received a court hearing and due process. Pam Bondi is an eternal stain on the Justice Department and justice itself.
