I think Americans, blessed with relatively stable government for a long time, assume there is someone, some adult, who will step in and make things right before the President does anything REALLY bad. There’s not.

NBC News is being kicked out of its space in the Pentagon and replaced by OANN.

Watching the #FireAid concert. I hate what happened to LA, but I love events like this that bring people together. On a side note, can we please get a tour from No Doubt

This federal funding freeze isn’t just affecting foreign aid or lefty non-profits —it’s a direct hit on veterans and the services they rely on. Let’s break down how this affects those who served our country.

excellent work, ADL, keep it up!

Who had the ADL gaslighting people over a Nazi salute on their 2025 Bingo card?

“We have no room in our administration for Democrats,” a Trump transition spokeswoman replied after Norman Eisen and Virginia Canter, two good-government activists, tried to join the president-elect’s new Department of Government Efficiency.

Nextdoor right now

We lost one of the best of us today www.ajc.com/news/former-...

The refs in the Birmingham Bowl have made multiple absolutely terrible calls and have as a result lost control of this game

Exclusive: The House Ethics Committee secretly voted to release its report into the conduct of former Rep. Matt Gaetz, according to multiple sources cnn.it/49J1BCK

Americans rely on litigation to constrain corporate behavior where most other countries use bureaucratic regulation. It’s why we are comparatively “so litigious.” But everywhere — in discrimination, privacy, consumer cases, and here insurance — that lone constraint is dissolving….

in my "economics and policy" class (ie, econ 101 for non-majors), I have students earn "participation points" in various ways throughout the semester, and they can earn points by generating econ memes based on course content. here's a thread of some of my favs from this semester... #econsky

You can have a failed coup as a little treat in our constitutional order. The Constitution and the rule of law took another, though inevitable, hit today.

Trump won a clear and convincing victory. But he and his allies are trying to pump it up into a "landslide," which it was not. With 49.997% of the vote, he fell short of a majority and his 1.6-point margin of victory is the third smallest since the 19th century. www.nytimes.com/2024/11/22/u...

all she did was exist

Hey baby are you the margin of error because you ARE DRIVING ME INSANE

While hurricane Milton is bad, the one silver lining is that no one in a position of power has suggested we fire a nuclear missile at it yet

I guess I hadn't thought about how far a person walks in their day-to-day life in terms of distance, just steps. I got a Fitbit around Halloween and just got a notification that in the month and a half since I started wearing it that I have walked 250 miles, or "the length of the London Underground"

People from multiple conferences are claiming they have two of the four best teams in the country. Washington and Oregon, or Michigan and Ohio State. The irony is the only conference that really does have two of the four best teams, Bama and UGA, won't have either of them in the playoff

If the ACC still had divisions, Georgia Tech would have won the Coastal. The way the ACC Championship looked I wouldn't have been surprised if GT would have won it, and having an unranked 6-6 team win a conference with four Top 25 teams would have been very fitting for this season

We live in the dumbest timeline

Monday’s ruling against Texas’s new book-ban law deserved some time and attention, particularly as these efforts proliferate in jurisdictions big and small. Tonight, at Law Dork:

“If anything, I like to go to nice restaurants. That is my deal. I like to go on a couple of nice vacations a year, but I think I pretty much have earned that in this fight,” Jones said, defending his $93,000 of personal spending in July and urging his audience to donate to his legal expenses.

an underrated theme in republican politics is that they feel that they were robbed in 2012 because they "held their nose" and nominated the "moderate" romney, and then Obama, in the greatest crime of the 21st century, compaigned against him anyway, which they feel should have been against the rules

1. People follow health guidance, esp. from co-partisans, which is why more Republicans died once vaccines became available. 2. In the Delta wave, people died in FL at disproportionate rates, because they were unvaxxed, incl. 9K under 65 3. FL urging ppl under 65 not to get vaxxed will kill people.

Senators voting not to hold an elected leader accountable for inspiring an insurrection in part because of fears about their personal safety. What would you say if you saw it in another country? www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...

I'm shocked! Shocked to find that gambling is going on in here

This seems on brand for us

Remember these photos when the Republicans try and tell you that they are inevitable, and that they have a majority in this country. Trump went to an Iowa State game tonight and this was the response from the stands.

Some random dude just texted my personal cell phone to ask me to refund him for his substack subscription that he didn’t mean to renew, then got angry at me for asking how he got my number since I don’t give it to strangers. What is wrong with people.

And this is from a man who told us in his first all hands at Twitter, that people should be able to deny the Holocaust on the platform because it's not illegal, and when someone mentioned it's illegal in Germany said that we should exit that market.

we left the path of righteousness when we abandoned transparent consumer electronics

I just found out that the literal translation of the Mandarin word for penguin is “business goose” and my day improved 500%

Went to DragonCon this past weekend and after every panel they asked speakers to share their socials. After a bunch had BlueSky and none mentioned Twitter I decided to finally hop on here
