Barrett stays based

Trump signing an executive order that he interprets all laws now is like the Lakers writing "we win all basketball games forever" on a piece of notebook paper. A, No they don't. B, seems like you're too chickenshit to play basketball

This was an incredibly moving film. I had no idea what it was about, Gina and I had heard good things and we like both actors. Haven't cried like this in a bit. Now, I'm a fairly emotional human being, so that's part of it, but the rest is that it hit a little too close to home for both of us.

Think me or my books are neat? I've created a page to answer the question: "How Can I Help?" Check it out for ways to review any of the books, do a testimonial, or spread the word. I basically can't do this without you, the readers. Thank you!! www.bc-johnson.com/how-can-i-help

Bogarting the VR headset your son got for Christmas when he's at school: fun Feeling like your soul has to barf after about twelve minutes of play: less fun

Kid crush GO!

My phone tried to autocorrect the book title to ONCE AND FUTURE KONG and, uh, free movie title for the MonsterVerse.

I know times are tough and the world is spiralling into the void, but if the #Buffy announcement has put you in the mood for snarky teenage badasses, I've got a fully finished series ready for you:

This is great: a whiteboard of jokes banned in the WORKAHOLICS writer's room. Every #writer needs something like this in their office but for words they overuse. Mine would have all versions of "looked" and "eyes," "smirk," "just," and all adverbs.

WRITING TIP: if you get stuck, try making the font really really big. This will remind you of being a baby, when you only knew twelve words and didn't know about death

A great line from THE ONCE AND FUTURE KING. Consider it inspiration, fellow #writers, to keep chugging away: "Every letter written is a wound inflicted on the devil."

A BUFFY reboot is on the way, and I have some thoughts! Don't worry, it's mostly negative. Kidding! Or am I? I am.

Called my Congressman, it was super easy and took like 30 seconds. Go through 5 calls dot org to help you find the info you need, including a script for exactly the issue you're concerned about.

I somehow wrote 1500 words for the new book despite only sleeping 4 hours last night. Large swathes of the text *appear* to be coherent.

Send these to your representatives. Do it now, not later.

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.

Playing with a new #writing technique to keep momentum. When I'm stuck, I type a bunch of questions in the doc, whatever's hanging me up. "What’s the setting for the scene? Who is present? What do they want to know?" etc. I often don't write answers. Just figuring out what's blocking me unblocks me

RIP to Wayne June, epic voice of the #DarkestDungeon. What an unforgettable performer. youtu.be/c1ybSl2c_J8?...

It’s important to know that a lot of productive activity is happening in person and offline, too. Not all of it can be broadcast online, but we’ve had hundreds of people showing up to our trainings, mobilizations, and more. Keep going. Tyranny is eroded by a sea of small acts. Everything matters.

I just realized I will likely have *two* books coming out this year where the main villain is a billionaire. At first I was like "...oh crap, I'm repeating myself," but now...yeah I think it's fine. It's probably fine. #amwriting #writers

"Where did your love for women who are kinda mean to you come from?"

Just caught the typo "neighbros" instead of neighbors in my manuscript and I desperately want a neighbro now.

First chapter of new manuscript done! A classic cold open. I think I'm closing in on the tone, and I'm getting a solid idea of the main character's voice.

Movie Pitch: Legendary authors Isaac Asimov and Stephen King get sucked into an Eldritch Horror mystery. Asimov is the skeptical science expert, King the believer with occult knowledge. Played by Jemaine Clement and Bill Hader, respectively.

I rarely hear writers talk about one of the strangest parts of starting a new novel: the tone and voice exploration of the first few chapters. "Is this too dry? Too funny? Too quirky? Does the vibe communicate the premise?" It's a fun, open time, but stressful too. #writing #writers

The whole "what if Nazis took over America" subgenre of speculative fiction is essentially dead, now. Like, how quaint

If you didn't even notice ChatGPT was down, you are my kind of people.

My son got a VR headset for Christmas, and I'm playing around with #VR for the first time and have a weird question: does anyone else feel a bit dissociated from their own body for like an hour afterward? Like, my actual hands feel like someone else's hands. It's bizarre.
