Today we remember Sojourner Truth (1797-1883) who was an American abolitionist & activist for African-American civil rights, women's rights, and alcohol temperance. She was born into slavery in New York but escaped in 1826. She fought on behalf of women and African Americans until her death.

Today we remember Harriet Tubman (1822-1913) who was an American abolitionist and social activist. After escaping slavery, Tubman rescued appx 70 enslaved people using the Underground Railroad. In later years, Tubman was an activist in the movement for women's suffrage.
