A silver lining in Trump breaking the system, replacing it with tax cuts for the aristocracy, is that we'll have to rebuild the system once he's finally dust. That means restructuring systems like health care, for example, to ensure universal coverage, won't seem so radical. Think big.

If it were not for due process, Trump and his Oath Keepers would be in a federal pen now. Yet he would deny those same rights to innocent U.S. citizens and immigrants alike. There is absolutely no intellectual honesty with Trump and his base. But we all know that. It's their Achilles heel.

AI humor.

The 1st Amendment is first for a reason in the Bill of Rights, and protected speech also is among the first rights attacked by tyrants. Precisely because it makes possible the spread of ideas that no bullet can kill.

Wall Street isn't a crystal ball. It's a casino. When more gamblers cash in than bet, the pot shrinks. When bets exceed calls, the pot grows. It's like a lottery, where your payout depends on when you cash in. It's not a great campaign issue unless timing breaks in your favor. 401ks and SS are.

This is performative, to get headlines. How do you sanction a "cartel" operating outside law? Freeze US assets? They aren't hiding their loot in the US. AP The sanctions freeze any assets the individuals or companies have in the U.S. and prohibit U.S. citizens from doing business with them.

The 5th anniversary of George Floyd's murder, on May 25, 2020, is near. Last year, some 1,260 people were killed by police. Black people are killed in disproportionate numbers, especially unarmed black folks, per the exhaustive database at this link. As Trump expands police power, keep this in mind.

No one would go to his b-day bash unless ordered to. Think of it as his funeral cortège test run. AP — ..Army plans for a potential military parade on..Trump’s birthday in June call for more than 6,600 soldiers, at least 150 vehicles, 50 helicopters, seven bands and..a couple thousand civilians.

The reality hasn't set in yet. A roaring vacuum sucking away the US economy. NYT “U.S. consumers will within a few weeks see empty shelves in clothing stores, toy stores, hardware stores and retail drugstores, and higher prices of the goods that still are on the shelves,” he [an economist] said.

He won't be the last screwup to leave the Trump stage. There's a long line of auditions for the role already, and growing. DB Waltz, 51, is the first cabinet member to leave his position in Trump’s second term.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. What kills you is not getting back up. WaPo “They are counting on the notion that, if they can make some people afraid, it will have a chilling effect… But what they’ve overlooked is that fear isn’t the only thing that’s contagious. Courage is contagious.”

RFK will next argue animal sacrifices are more effective than vaccines. WaPo “All new vaccines will undergo..placebo-controlled trials.. — a radical departure from past practices.." Experts say it..can be unethical, because the placebo group would not receive a known effective intervention.

A bottomless cesspool.... Legal pleadings 4.28.25: Phillips’s real motivation in luring the Ring Boys with the promise of gaining access to the popular WWE events was to sexually abuse them. And Vince McMahon knew it, admitting that..Phillips had a “peculiar and unnatural interest” in young boys.

Leaving it to ICE to meet rendition quotas set by Trump. Violating civil rights for headlines. Nasty stuff. NYT Mr. Bukele’s demands for more information about some of the deportees..deepen questions about whether the Trump administration sufficiently assessed who it dispatched to a foreign prison.

At the Salon of Authentic Journalism earlier this month, organizer Janet Cherry exposed the Stilfontein massacre where nearly 100 miners died of starvation while the state blocked humanitarian aid. (1

"You can’t tell the truth to readers unless you are first honest with them about your own truth. The facts matter, but point of view allows you to tell readers honestly why they matter."

ICE's "Operation Toys Aren't US" is ramping up.

Satellite wars. Amazon, SpaceX. The billionaires race to control low-orbit Earth and the future of the global internet.

What I learned about ICE is that some agents ignore the rules, intimidate anyone who exposes their malfeasance but ultimately fold because they're in the wrong, including in my own encounter with them and allied prosecutors. Don't be cowed. Know your rights. Stand your ground. Build alliances.

It's a pack mentality that leads to injustice and shattered families. Who benefits besides twisted xenophobes? NYT Given the scale of the operation, Ms. Petit said, there is a chance that many of those arrested were in the country on some sort of legal status and did not possess criminal records.

Coming to a store near you soon. Tariffs will create supply-demand imbalances in waves on a host of products U.S. consumers consider staples, too. It's Econ 101, which the Trump administration clearly thinks is not a thing.

For not declaring frog embryos we sacrifice cancer detection. Overpaid jackboots without a clue. AP As Petrova spends days in a crowded dormitory awaiting her fate, her colleagues say their research, including using a one-of-a-kind cancer-detecting microscope, will be delayed or moot.

New at Media Nation: No, the arrest of Judge Dugan is not unprecedented. Plus, the DOJ targets leaks and threatens journalists, and how Jeff Bezos' hiring of Will Lewis started The Washington Post down the road to perdition.

Law enforcers acting outside the law are gang members by definition. Reason "The..Trump administration has authorized every single law enforcement officer in the country, including traffic cops, to engage in immigrant roundups explicitly outside due process," Ryan Shapiro ..Property of the People.

At the Salon of Authentic Journalism, writers, voices, image-makers and activists stood together. The revolution won’t be televised — it will be organized, written, spoken, thoroughly documented, and utterly unstoppable. These photos contain more storytelling power than most newsrooms.

Coincidence? CNN Judge Hannah Dugan is facing two charges for obstruction and concealing [an immigrant] from arrest. www.cnn.com/2025/04/25/p... NYT The indictment [April 25, too] [occurred under] Trump.., when Massachusetts and other states..were trying to provide a sanctuary for immigrants.

For now, it's cheaper to let many widgets sit in storage than pay tariffs to ship them. No one wants to be the first to up prices. After empty store shelves for a bit, it will be easier to raise prices. A flood of higher-priced products will then get shipped. Causing shipping prices to rise, too.

Musk got out-maneuvered by change. ST Tesla sold 1.3 million cars in the quarter, a 9% decline from the year-earlier period. Sales of rival brands, meanwhile, collectively notched a gain of 32%. In two years, Tesla’s share of the U.S. EV market has skidded from almost two-thirds to less than half.

He's living in a bubble. The only mandate he has now is to convince us his bubble is our reality. It's not working. And all bubbles eventually burst. NYT “We’re going to be making money with everyone, and everyone’s going to be happy,” he told reporters outside the White House on Wednesday.

Our economic policy is like his golf game, both paid for on our dime one errant swing at a time.

How long can they hang on? Musk has already been bucked to the ground, no?

I guess the DOGE creep isn't good for car sales. Maybe the Tesla stockholders and employees will wise up and take a different road, one where their CEO isn't using them as crash-test dummies.

Nothing to see here under the cover of corruption and incompetence. Other than reality. ProPublica The lack of transparency about the process has created concerns among trade experts that politically connected firms might be winning carve-outs behind closed doors.
