No better way to make an editor's day than by telling them their mag gave a home to one of their fave stories. Warms my heart!

My story "Tea for Truth, Mango for Memory" - and a podcast version of it, too! - are out in the most recent issue of Beneath Ceaseless Skies. Read or listen to it now! #WritingCommunity #WriteSky #ShortStory #Published

New Issue: BCS #427 out today, featuring stories of magic and finding family and freedom by RZ Held @rhiannonheld.bsky.social and @nicolelsopergorden.bsky.social, a podcast of the Soper Gorden guest-narrated by MK Hobson, new cover art by Tyler Edlin. www.beneath-ceaseless-skies.com/issues/issue...

Another day, another email from a cranky "AI" supporter having a temper tantrum over the fact that I'll ban them for using their favorite toy in our house. We do not allow the use of generative "AI" at all. That isn't going to change and you aren't being oppressed by our policy.

New cover art, w BCS #427 this Thurs (which has stories by RZ Held @rhiannonheld.bsky.social & @nicolelsopergorden.bsky.social): Arcmetto Bay by returning BCS artist Tyler Edlin. www.beneath-ceaseless-skies.com/artwork/arcm...

This week's free spec rec is "The Village of the Sleeping Dead" by Blue Guldal @fugazulero.bsky.social in @bcsmagazine.bsky.social zine.bsky.social www.beneath-ceaseless-skies.com/stories/the-... "They took her mother in a floating, oilslick lighteater." #writingcommunity #specfic ✍️ 🔱

Going over 2024 publications I ran across "Conversation with a Dragon," which I'm really proud of, and which owes SO MUCH to Scott Andrews's careful edits. Whatcha think, should it be first chapter of a novel at some point? @bcsmagazine.bsky.social www.beneath-ceaseless-skies.com/stories/conv...

We don’t show it often, but running an indie press—at least semi-successfully, w/sustainability, health & respect for all involved in mind—is a terrifying, chaotic endeavor. Thank you for modeling behavior, professionalism & a clear aesthetic for us in our first few years. Hails, Off Limits🖤☠️

Hotter take: yeah, it is.

If you feel like getting away from it all, and you like weird Westerns, here from 2011 is the kickoff of an outstanding ongoing short fiction series by @peterdarbyshire.bsky.social at @bcsmagazine.bsky.social. (The image shows the magazine logo beside mossy ruins with a low sun in a hazy amber sky.)

Don’t buy anything today. Read free webzines.

Live in BCS #426 "For Those Who Sink and Those Who Float" @jduckwriter.bsky.social "the wobbling gray ribbon of the shoreline. She has never been to the dry world of the shore, where the boatmen dwell. No one in the glide has ever breached the surface" www.beneath-ceaseless-skies.com/stories/for-...

Breaking out hypnochicken after today's magazine news leak and the various worst-case scenarios filling the gaps that likely would have been covered in an official press release.

Look who's going to have a story in the next issue of Beneath Ceaseless Skies! (Spoilers: it's me 😊) You can buy early access now, if you're interested!

Live BCS #426: "The Village of the Sleeping Dead" Blue Guldal @fugazulero.bsky.social. "We were the ones who found them. Fırat speculates that a health detention went wrong, put everyone to sleep instead of just the infected. And then nobody woke up." www.beneath-ceaseless-skies.com/stories/the-...

For no reason other than short spec fic makes the world tolerable, I'll link some stories that have stayed with me over the last year. First up: "Nine Tenths of the Law" By K.J. Parker @bcsmagazine.bsky.social www.beneath-ceaseless-skies.com/stories/nine... 📚🪐📚💙#booksky

From the Archives: "Under the Reaching Tree" @jduckwriter.bsky.social BCS #409: "As long as she is here, in the Tween, in the shade of the Reaching Tree beside Birdy, she’s still a free girl. But when she goes back to the Stead, she’ll be a woman." www.beneath-ceaseless-skies.com/stories/unde...

nomination windows are closing and I wrote five awesome stories this year, check them out.

Forgot to promote this yesterday! My newest story, what I'd describe as a sort of reversed (in basically every sense) Shadow Over Innsmouth, is out with the newest issue of Beneath Ceaseless Skies!

If you use AI to create your writing, I can’t guarantee you’ll never be caught. You may even cobble together something an editor won’t distinguish from writing a human produced. But what I can guarantee you is this: that will the hollowest of victories for the smallest and most fleeting of gains.

While I'm at it, check out all of @bcsmagazine.bsky.social's awards eligible works. While BCS has recused itself from the Best Semipro Magazine Hugo Award, individual authors/stories are eligible in their respective categories, and @scott-h-andrews.bsky.social is eligible for Best Editor Short Form.

Locus column is due tomorrow & really hoping to get it in on time. I read 80 works for this one, covering Dec-Feb Escape Pod & Cast of Wonders; Jan Strange Horizons, Flash Fiction Online, & Reckoning; & Feb Fiyah, Small Wonders, GigaNotoSaurus, Lightspeed, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, & Diabolical Plots

“Speaking the Sun” by Thomas Bales from @BCSmagazine (@bcsmagazine.bsky.social), “Adjudication Form 134π53” by David Marino from @SmallwondersSFF (@smallwondersmag.com), and more short fic recs from @ClowderofTwo here - locusmag.com/2025/02...

Worth the 5 minute read. So good! I live for stories like this.

BCS Archives: "The Influence of the Iron Range" @marissalingen.bsky.social BCS #237: "The bandstand has medallions of iron emblazoned to it, in the years since the Hayes election...Any redcap or jenny-greenteeth might slip into one of those positions" www.beneath-ceaseless-skies.com/stories/the-...

Today's story - "Joy, or a Humble Orbit Through the Celestial City" by @willmcmahon36.bsky.social in BENEATH CEASELESS SKIES. An extended meditation (and metaphor) on power on class, power, and flawed gods. Not the easiest read but a tremendous bit world building and characterization.
