We are exposed to a rainy depression, storms and winds. After the house was destroyed after the war, the tent was destroyed and my children are now homeless. For the sake of my young children, to protect them from the cold, the goal is 500 euros to buy the tent.and some food🥹🥹

I'm closing out this drive for now for Mohamed, the sole provider for his family who've endured yet another cold night in a tent. We've made great progress towards getting them into an apartment - please keep it going, share their story, and believe in their life 🌿 tiny.cc/HelpMohamed

Reposting this starter pack for folks working on the history and material culture of Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa - mostly late antiquity through to early modern. Please read through, follow, and give me more suggestions for folks, projects and institutions to add! 🏺⛏️🧿⚱️

Even the trees in #Exeter have baggage

Grim, and somehow feels eerily similar, save for the Astana stuff. But still, new buildings instead of staff, centralised admin staff, hostile environment, redundancies, cuts on everything, refusals to provide any research money or match grant funding (including postdocs). UK higher ed is done.

M'learned colleague from Aberdeen here gets it exactly right: the bleak, dark mood of panic on university campuses emanates at root the fact they've lost all sense of their purpose. For me they've lost their *moral* bearings, but other colleagues may differ.

One day I will write an account of my time as a student, of the financial precarity, of the stolen ideas and labour, the backstabbing, the time devoted to supporting others in arch (uncredited), the poor authorship practices, the heartbreak of every kind - platonic, romantic, academic, familial.

There was a time, in recent memory, that people were appalled to learn that human zoos existed well into the mid-20th century. Now people are happy about that other people are in cages. It's the direct result of dehumanisation, itself a product of the white supremacist world in which we live.

😍 I grew up a 15 minute drive from here and was dragged up the hill multiple times as a kid. It's only now, as an adult, that I realise how truly wondrous it is and how amazing are the history and archaeology of Scotland. Feels a bit silly my own research interests lie thousands of miles away!

Did anyone guess that in the future, in 2024-2025, the world would rely on gofundme's in place of state support? From Palestine to LA normal people transfer wealth between themselves to counter colonialism and capitalism. Meanwhile the rich get richer and politics devolves to pissing contests.

I highly recommend pinning the Quiet Posters feed to your homepage. Scrolling through this feed I see great posts which would be missed otherwise. A lot of my recent reposts they came from here.

The world would be a scarier place had I been born a man

It would be really great If people could see The pain they've caused And simply say Let me leave you this space That you helped create

It's time for History of Islamic Art in 100 Objects! And I want to begin with two objects that are not "Islamic" but which illuminate two seemingly contradictory (and often misunderstood) themes: 1. Islamic art values abstraction 2. Islamic art has abundant figural imagery #IslamicArt100Objects
