"Coalition vows to match Labor's $8.5 billion Medicare pledge 'dollar for dollar'" That's because it doesn't have an idea of its own. Not to mention its history with Medicare. Oh sorry: Nuclear reactors Slashing the public service CEO long lunches

Professor John Blaxland from Australian National University. theconversation.com/trumps-view-...

Times are moving on. The old politics is not sufficient to meet the challenge of our time. open.substack.com/pub/nickfeik...

The voters of Aust have zero idea of LNP policy. We do not know what Dutton is offering other than nuclear reactors, CEO long lunches & more race stuff. I am in The Castro today in San Francisco looking at some Harvey Milk memorabilia. I came across this flyer from his election & thought of Dutton.

I don't know why this Robodebt news is not plastered over every front page in the country. Aust's most egregious political wrongdoing of modern times. The LNP should be hung out to dry over this. Instead they dare to moralise to the rest of us about ethical behaviour. www.smh.com.au/politics/fed...

Within two days of each other: Parnelle Palm McGuinness writes a piece in SMH saying sons are heading to Peter Dutton and asks, will their mothers go with them. Patricia Karvelas writes today on ABC asking is Peter Dutton a man whisperer.

A great article by thoughtful commentator Mark Kenny.

1/2 The Albanese Gov has shelved the Nature Positive reforms a second time. I think it is clear they have proven themselves incapable of standing up to mining & forestry interests. I think they have proven themselves incapable of reducing emissions.

I'll let Tony Wright speak for himself. www.smh.com.au/national/sus...

1/2 And right on cue. Peter Dutton, pulling lines straight out of Trump's playbook, planning to abolish cultural diversity & inclusion roles in the Gov. Service. It's racist in America. I don't know why it shouldn't be deemed so here in Australia.

On the eve of Trump's inauguration. www.smh.com.au/world/north-...

www.abc.net.au/news/2025-01... We have finally reached the point in the election cycle (at last) where the LNP has to offer definitive policies and defend them.

“Indeed, but for Mr Trump’s election and imminent return to the presidency, the office assessed that the admissible evidence was sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction at trial.” Jack Smith, Special Counsel www.smh.com.au/world/north-...

Dutton says that Albanese is responsible for all antisemitism in Australia. Albanese calls him divisive and nasty. C'mon #Albo you can do better than that. It is an outrageous slur against you and shows up the character of the man. And you describe him as nasty? You'd better do better than that.

Peter Dutton styles himself as a strong leader. With his record on the Apology to the Stolen Generation, to refugees and ppl fleeing persecution, not to mention his relentless divisiveness and negativity, most thoughtful ppl might reasonably conclude that he is the very antipathy of a strong leader.

In Britain's Glorious Revolution, the British effectively overthrew a King and replaced him with a 'President'. In the American Revolutioniary War, Americans effectively rejected a President and set up a 'King'. The present SCOTUS has given Trump even more power. www.smh.com.au/world/north-...

All the Right wants to do is to take the country back. Whether it's the USA, Canada or Australia, they just want to take the country back. Back into their hands & back in time, to a putative halcyon period when everything was so much better. Only it wasn't. No progress forward, just back.

Hearing that #HadiNazari was found alive and ok was the highlight of my day. A true good news story amidst the repellent stuff that passes for news these days. Glad he's back with his family and friends. And much respect to the professionals and volunteers who have been searching for almost 2 weeks.

So, Canada. You're ready to toss out the Liberals and reinstate a conservative government? Be careful what you wish for. Americans did that and now they're stuck with serial liar Donald Trump whose insurrection is now a "a day of love". Vote for a conservative and you'll get a conservative.

I am pleased to see #Labor out today trying to take the initiative in the public debate. I have to say: it's about bloody time. Over 2024, Labor vacated the field of leadership & were thus relgated to mere reactors to Dutton's pronouncements. He framed & led the national debate. This has to change.

As an Australian, I was appalled at the riot fomented by Trump - we all saw him do it - at the Capitol in an attempt to stop the election being ratified. Trump & his MAGAs are welcome to their post-truth wrld. Not me & countless millions like me. Truth will prevail. open.substack.com/pub/adamkinz...

Best wishes to all for the coming year 😊

Yesterday Trump suggested the US take control of the Panama Canal. Today he suggests the US take control of Greenland, a semi-autonomous region of Denmark. This guy won an election * to be President of the United States, not Emperor of the World. * Trump pop vote 49.9% Harris pop vote 48.4%

“It’s necessary to reassess and recalculate the assumptions that will inform the Climate Change Authority’s advice to the government on Australia’s Nationally Determined Contribution" Matt Kean Chairman CCA. Wow, the CCA gives advice to the Government. You might say it's a Voice to Parliament.

1/3 At the end of 2024 I feel disappointed and let down by our political leaders. The Albanese Gov has not moved on important issues the way I had hoped. It's a centre-Left Gov that is more centre than it is Left. It is terrified of upsetting anyone including the Coalition. Albo is a hopeless

Ross Gittins is not given to hyperbole or stupid braggadocio. His disappointment and frustration with Albanese as the leader of a centre-Left government is clear. He speaks for many, myself included. NB. #ALP www.smh.com.au/politics/fed...

Should he win the next election, Peter Dutton says: * He won't use the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander flag * He'll lower permanent immigration numbers * He'll reduce the number of international students studying here What's the thread that links these? I can't quite place it. What could it be?

Mark Kenny names the "moderate" Liberals for the craven do-nothings they are.

1. "Once again, the Albanese Labor Government has put Australia at odds with our closest ally, the United States, and abandoned a key democratic ally in Israel," said Shadow Foreign minister Simon Birmingham. What rubbish! No-body's abandoned anybody. You'd think from the LNP that Australia is not

Aust becoming meaner under Labor, just like it did under John Howard. Qld LNP disgraceful in values around kids. And Labor it seems, creaking towards the Right more & more. We don't want to upset the Liberals or the mining companies. That would be bad, wouldn't it! www.smh.com.au/politics/fed...

In Australia, the Left always admonished Scott Morrison because of his continuous puffery, vacuousness, and relentless babble. However, I gotta say, Anthony Albanese couldn't sell, persuade or convince an issue to the ppl if he tried. He failed doing so on the Voice and he's failing now w/ climate.

I've been watching Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous. I've been watching it in Italian (with English sub-titles) to help me learn the language. It was supposed to have just been a language exercise, but I have fallen in love with this wonderful show, its fabulous characters & their indomitable spirit.
