freethinker.co.uk/2024/11/femi... Interesting view. I would certainly agree that a great many if not most interpretations of religion that are currently popular are incompatible with feminism but I don't think that extrapolates to a general rule covering all religions. (cont)

This image came up in my facebook memories as something that was doing the rounds at this time in 2017, when 45 had been in the White House for a bit under a year. Musing on what has changed since then and what has stayed depressingly the same.

#PublicArt seen today walking through Totterdown. Quick google finds it is part of a www.gatheringvoices.org.uk project. Ghostly figures reminding us of the rich history of the area.

The blue plaque which commemorates the celebration of the discovery of the structure of DNA has finally been updated to acknowledge Rosalind Franklin. newn.cam.ac.uk/newnham-news... #HERstory #WomensHistory #WomenInSTEM

19 million @bsky.app users? Better make sure they all know about the handy alt text reminder! 🫡 Go to Settings > Accessibility and make sure "Require alt text before posting" is toggled on. We love that accessibility is such a priority here.

#bookreviewsof2024 The Amber Fury. Bereaved and struggling, Alex takes a job in a Pupil Referral Unit and teaches the children about Greek Mythology. They seem to respond and engage brilliantly but events take a dark and unexpected turn. Very enjoyable.

##bookreviewsof2024 The Watchmaker of Filigree Street - I love this book and have read it twice now. Combines magic realism, steampunk clockwork, the Michelson-Morley experiment to determine the nature of the Ether, and the possibility of remembering the future, to make a powerful story. 5☆

This account has been dormant for >1yr after I tried out bluesky and didn't like it. Apparently the software glitches that annoyed me are better now, so will try again. Hello. I currently have 14 followers but I suspect there are a few dozen more bluesky users who I know IRL who I just need to find.

I want to see Phoebe Waller-Bridge in the blockbuster movie "Wombat Shaw and the the Pyramid of Enlightenment" by 2025 at the latest.

My question is - how many known godilocks-zone exoplanets were also within range of the ultra-high-power "yoohoo over here" signal? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-66408851

I am really glad not to be camping at an event half the size of Glastonbury for under-18s, in monsoon season in a hot climate full of biting insects, relying on pitching the tent on palates to stay dry and grateful for a delivery of toilet paper from the Czech embassy for a modicum of hygiene.

The lovely authentic mexican restaurant that we haven't been to since pre-covid has sadly become less authentic - no longer does cactus salad and the food is that much more americanised (although still v good). This is our fault isn't it, for not having been loyal customers over the last 3 years?

... when you send a cheery "how's it going" to someone who has already kept you waiting around for weeks for something you need, and you get their "out of office" message saying they will be away until 17th August...

#bookreviewsof2023 The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak. I love that the narrator voices is a fig tree, and regularly digresses to describe personality traits of other trees. The action is divided across Cyprus & London from the 1960s-2000s. A story of forbidden love, dislocation and identity.
