election law followers please correct me if i’m wrong, but most of this seems basically unenforceable? like, the president does not have the legal authority to force a resident of virginia to submit a passport to register to vote in the state

texas is trying to make selling sex toys safely and privately online a criminal offense. this is worth paying attention to: www.404media.co/texas-sex-to...

A character in one of the Lemony Snicket books says, “Wicked people never have time for reading. It’s one of the reasons for their wickedness,” and I can’t help noticing that many of the most sinister figures in public life are vocal about never reading.

who did this??

This extremely impeachable move by Hegseth should be rewarded with impeachment, btw. If anyone else is planning to call their Congressmembers in DC this week, ‘Impeach Hegseth’ is an easy line to add to any message you leave!

Hamdan Ballal, Palestinian co-director of the Oscar winning short-film ‘NO OTHER LAND’, has been freed: “After being handcuffed all night and beaten in a military base, Hamdan Ballal is now free and is about to go home to his family.”

I think the Atlantic scandal might actually be a pretty big turning point, more than it seems at first. Not because it's the worst thing Trump has done, but because they look SO, SO stupid and incompetent. And it's an incredible reminder that this is all a massive clown show.

Read Manjula's letter about why she is withdrawing from the PEN World Voices Festival in observance of the @wawog.bsky.social boycott. I hope @penamerica.bsky.social is listening to the writers asking them to take a position on genocide.

Passing the bill he wants passed gives him more power. Not passing the bill he wants takes away from his power. Pls stop insulting everyone’s intelligence.

Call your senators and let them know if they join Schumer here you will never give them another dime or another vote and you’ll devote your time and money to anyone who primaries them.

@gavinnewsom.bsky.social created a podcast "This is Gavin Newsom," the title indicating that the show is designed to tell us who Gavin Newsom is. He has had three guests: Charlie Kirk, Michael Savage, and Steve Bannon. Message received; now we know exactly who Gavin Newsom is.

This is also known as invading Panama.

“we have to be able to commit war crimes to win wars” is the type of thing a 16-year-old dumbass says and — well, yeah, hegseth is basically a 16-year-old dumbass

but Zelenskyy is the dictator 🙄

Literally all he did was quote someone. Defining criticism of the government as treason is what authoritarians do. Turning a publicly funded news outlet into a state media propaganda machine is what authoritarians do.

Medicare went from legislation to covering over 90% of eligible Americans within one year, based on mailing people paper forms.

Banging on this drum yet again, both men and women up to age 45 are eligible for this vaccine (and I’ve *heard* you can pay out of pocket if you are out of eligibility) and the amount of cancers it prevents: This is the cancer moonshot you heard about.

I would love a tidbit of news that doesn't make me want to quote-repost it with "chat is this bad"

Tesla lost enough value today that it could have fully funded USAID for a year.

there really ought to be more discussion about the fact that virtually every promise (or denial) trump made during the campaign was a total lie

Good boy

US Economic Boycott/blackout today! If you have to shop shop local/small! Try and use cash! I've heard more about this one than I have literally any of the other attempted ones. I've seen more people talk about it.

I made this the other night while procrastinating, mainly because I thought all the posts about the blackout were boring. It feels like there is momentum bringing people together!

If you have a public library near you, I think a fun thing to do during the blackout would be to go there and check out some items.

Also, if you get a library card and are an ebook/audio book person, you can use Libby/Hoopla through the library to borrow those instead! If you don't have a local library, the queer liberation library can issue cards, and they use Libby as well! www.queerliberationlibrary.org/members

doing piccrews always makes me feel more creative and I love it sm

Anyone can meet with an immigration expert, by phone or in person, at half a dozen Los Angeles Public Library locations from Wilmington to Pacoima, through a long-running, city-funded program called the New Americans Initiative.

He really be addressing the nation like he’s a government official. Let me off this ride 🥲

Not sure how many that follow me would care about Joann Fabrics closing but my wife was in the local one yesterday and its a bit crazy, I believe if you have any gift cards they won't honor them after tomorrow so you best go spend them! wapo.st/3QCz2yg

For those people wondering where to get fabric and yarn with the Joann closures, a few suggestions: -local knitting/crafting groups (check your local library) -thrift stores -garage and yard sales -flea markets -local Buy Nothing and swap groups -local theater departments -fiber festivals and fairs

Joann had a sprawling retail footprint and was a victim of the slow US decline toward cheaper, more disposable clothing, but they also suffered a blow during Trump's first term. Trump's 2018 tariffs increased cost of imports and US equivalents were too expensive for customers.

Saw this and... Yep 😅 #writing
