It seems we are cursed to have the most important events and issues of our lives run through the prism of literally the dimmest and most toxic man alive. And endure the torture of infinitely more intelligent people try to make sense of it.

Banksy did it again.

As a tribute to the late, great Gene Hackman, can Superman fly backwards round the Earth until the planet is saveable once more?

I wonder if FIFA told the US it had to be a dictatorship with a poor human rights record before it was allowed to host the World Cup.

America: how it’s changed. The 46th President of the United States called Vladimir Putin “a murderous dictator.” The 47th President called Volodymyr Zelensky “a dictator without elections.”

Trump has now completely humiliated his apologists in the U.K. but not one of them will be honest enough to admit it.

Dark Pence is back.

I wonder why? Maybe it’s due to “it” that cannot be named and I’m not talking about Voldemort (oops I mentioned him!)

There is so much going on that this has slipped under the radar. France’s military retreat from Africa has taken place at astonishing speed. By the end of this year, the only French permanent military base in Africa will be in Djibouti In @economist.com www.economist.com/middle-east-...

The noise from the North Atlantic off the Antrim coast today.

The biggest difference between the UK and US is that over there Frankie goes to Hollywood, Jennifer Rush and Gabrielle Aplin never charted with 'Power of Love', whereas Huey Lewis and Celine Dion reached number 1. That, and gun control.

A fitting way to celebrate it, I reckon...

🧑‍⚖️It is confirmed. For the first time, #Hungarian judges will hold a demonstration in Budapest on 22 February, protesting for the independence of the judiciary. #ruleoflaw #judiciary

what's particularly bonkers is the sheer expense, political effort, complicated negotiations and pain for exporters - for a result which the public have now largely disowned

YouGov find just 30% of people think we were right to leave the EU. The lowest number yet. Just 10% of 18-24 year olds think it was the right decision.

When I finished high school in Brussels in 1999, the vast majority of students from my year, who came from all over Europe, especially those with really good exam results, wanted to go to university in only one country: The UK.

Was hoping I wouldn’t have to dust off this gem again.

Why is the government happy to cosy up to China, but won't even look at a better customs deal with our closest neighbours in Europe? Ministers say they’re looking everywhere for growth but are ignoring what is staring them in the face.

Poohsticks From the new Private Eye, out now.

This is why the EU and major EU capitals always say 'the ball is in the UK's court' - because from experience, all proposals coming from the EU are shot down in Westminster at first sight, regardless of whether by Labour or previous Tory governments.
