Checked out the new hanafuda merch at Nintendo stores! It’s so cool they’re pushing their history this hard in 2025. I got a shirt and a memo pad!

Working on a display for the very special 1894 Kyoto city guide, with oldest known Nintendo advertisement First prototype for the book stand made

After posting the overview of 10 years of memories, some more popped up. Like presenting a copy of Before Mario to Charles Martinet @charlesmartinet.bsky.social From Before Mario to Mario!

It has been ten years since the Before Mario book was published. In my latest blog post, I look back at a decade of wonderful memories. Read it here: blog.beforemario.com/2025/02/ten-...

This beautiful Nintendo Ele-Conga set from 1972, including Auto Player, just sold for ¥390,828 😮 (around US$2.500) Looks like new, possibly unplayed 🤩

You can pick one... Which? #Nintendo #GameandWatch

I met @melocol3 who is printing the QR code for his socials on a Game Boy Printer and handing them to people 🖨️😄

New addition to the collection: original vintage Nintendo mini glass shop showcase, for playing cards

Done! And they are beautiful, just like the first series.

Pikmin Terrarium Collection 2 Let's go!!!

I was wondering this morning, is collecting Nintendo Game & Watch games still hot, or over its peak?

One of the biggest surprises at the Nintendo Museum was a remake of the 1966 Ultra Hand, for sale at the gift shop for ¥7,480. It's a loving recreation that honors and improves upon the original. Can you spot the differences? Full story here: blog.beforemario.com/2024/10/nint...

˗ˏˋ SHELFIE SUNDAY ˎˊ˗ been awhile since we've done this -- reply with photos of your video game collection and later today we'll check them out on stream!

Patience is a virtue... Was finally able to grab a 30th anniversary edition PS5 controller Displayed here next to its PS1 ancestor

Nintendo Unirack storage system from the 1970s

Talking about strategic ad placement... This Nintendo Twister ad from 1966 appeared in the Japanese 'Playboy' magazine (no relation) More about this here: blog.beforemario.com/2025/01/nint...

The Nintendo Game & Watch Tabletop series (called "Color Screen" in Japan) featured some of the most advanced LCD games of the 1980s, with full-color animations. Four different games were released: Donkey Kong Jr., Mario's Cement Factory, Snoopy, and Popeye. Did you own one back in the day?

With the arrival of the Nintendo Disney playing cards showcase, I also rearranged this other corner of the Before Mario collection

The recently acquired vintage Nintendo glass shop showcase for Disney playing cards (early 1960s) takes center stage in the collection.

I was nervous for this recent addition to the collection to arrive without sustaining any damage, but it was packed very very well. Traveled across the globe without a single issue. Good start of the year! 🙂 Nintendo Disney Playing cards glass shop display, from the early 1960s.

The Marufukuro Hotel in Kyoto (Nintendo's former head quarters), now offers 'experience' packages, including a helicopter flight over the Nintendo museum. marufukuro.com/en/experience/ My friend Nakamura-san recently went and took these pictures. Looks exciting!

During the playing card era, Nintendo awarded prizes to sales representatives; luxury items sourced from the famous departement store chain Daimaru (a company with roots in Kyoto, like Nintendo). Examples are this 'Nintendo' towel and 'Bohemian Silver' platter.

From the Meiji period until 1989, it was mandatory in Japan to affix government-issued tax stamps to playing cards as a measure to regulate their production and sales. The collection of Nintendo items in the Marufuku Hotel includes a set of original ink stamps used to invalidate these tax stamps.

These are Wonderful! Wonderswan Color Gashapon!!

It's my birthday!

The award for the most over-the-top packaging ever... Back in 2017, I received these two amiibo from Amazon Japan, in two separate boxes inside another box!

Obviously, my favorite one is this one...

Any love for the Nintendo New3DS faceplates out there?
