this is from a new report on a “third way” on DEI and it is unbelievably naive, which in my view is emblematic of the author, rich kahlenberg, whose willingness to extend good faith to obvious bad faith actors borders on gullibility www.progressivepolicy.org/a-way-out-of...

boy I didn't not realize how absurdly accomplished Robeson was even before he was a singer. He was class valedictorian at Rutgers, where he was the lone Black student, *and* a two-time All-American, *and lettered in multiple sports* then he did his law degree at Columbia while playing in the NFL.

This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

after careful study of the life of Henry VIII, I have come to the conclusion that, as a young man, he was the kind of guy who brings a guitar to parties and plays Dylan songs.

this is an act of unspeakable violence. it benefits no one, it doesn’t move a number on a balance sheet. it only guarantees that every one of these incarcerated transgender people will be tortured.

Big Copper doesn't want you to know its secrets.

Not a charge anyone should deploy lightly, but what the ADL is doing right now is kapo shit

So per Bannon, Jewish people are the number one enemy of Israel, and Israeli support mostly comes from groups whose support for Israel is predicated in their belief in genocidal apocalyptical prophecy. I'm starting to think that U.S. support for Israel isn't about combatting antisemitism at all.

'provocative' is a fascinating euphemism for 'racist' here. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/w...

It’s actually shocking how much happiness having friends over for like 3 hours generates versus Doing Phone

when they sent Burgess to Washington they told him a) not to be openly Communist, b) not to cause any homosexual scandals, and c) not to make a fuss about 'race relations' to which he replied 'So you're telling me I shouldn't seduce Paul Robeson?'

Musk is litigious and extremely, extremely rich and powerful.

I'm calling for a total and complete shutdown of Elon Musk fathering any more children until we can figure out what is going on.

by the way these are literally the exact same dumbass motherfuckers, not like them, the literal exact same fucking guys, saying government is inefficient and you should cancel it to give them all the governments money so they can provide you services instead

Unironically, these letters are a good example of how we’re ruled by evil men now. It would have cost them nothing to be at least slightly sympathetic. “Hey man, we know this is rough, but we have to tighten our belts and…” They instead deliberately made them as cruel as possible.

Reading a biography of Burgess, one of the Cambridge Five, and it struck me that a distinctive feature of the espionage world of the 1920s-50s or so is how literary it is. Lots of writers who became spies, and spies who became writers. That contributes to the air of fantasy about the whole affair

It never ceases to amaze me, the moment I use my platform on places like Instagram to say something about how it's wrong for Hamas to kill children, how many people decide to tell me I don't stand with Palestinians, etc etc. Usually white people with no connection to the land.

Rufo called me a groomer and sent his audience after my family because I said I was fine with my daughter going to therapy. CPS got called. It took months to get rid of them. My former colleagues thought it was hilarious and did nothing.

I am going to start claiming to be a Seth Abramson biographer

One of the reasons AOC is so effective as a communicator is because she presents being in Congress as a calling, not a job.

Reporter @owillis.bsky.social saw a too-perfect quote from a Black voter -- ID'd as an AI worker -- in an NYT quoteboard. So he did checked -- and voila, turns out the guy is a flak for Houston Young Republicans. NYT stealth-edited the guy's bio the next day. www.dailykos.com/stories/2025...

Following a loud public outcry about job cuts at the National Parks Service — and a relentless media campaign from outdoors enthusiasts across the country — it looks like the Trump administration has blinked. via @jackdolan.bsky.social

if you're in the UK and have an outdoor cat (like most UK cats), I would be seriously thinking about switching them to an inside cat given the bird flu situation; there's already been dozens of US cat cases (where outdoor cats are much rarer but bird flu growing) and UK bird flu cases are rising

Go to town hall meetings. When they get a reception like this, it absolutely scares the hell out of them.

NEW: The Energy Department tried to spin its DOGE-directed firing of nuclear-safety officials as affecting just non-critical staff. But this wasn’t close to true. In fact, one of the officials locked out of his work accounts was the top authority for all nuclear-safety matters in the agency.

Let's be very clear: Journalists need to stand with @AP The effort to bar an outlet to make it obey will not stop with one. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/20/b...

something that I think would be really interesting to study is how Trump appears in people's dreams, especially his supporters. their view of him seems to bear very little resemblance to anything he says or does

Elon’s busy schedule today is claiming astronauts were left in the ISS for political reasons, getting corrected by an ISS astronaut, throwing a fit where he calls the astronaut a slur, then complaining that we should deorbit the ISS

In 2024, the NLRB filed a complaint against Tesla for interfering in a union drive at their Buffalo, NY assembly plant. Today:
