Some of my favourite American magazines which I picked up in Chicago a few days ago. I was really pleased to get a copy of @newrepublic.com to read @katherinestewart.bsky.social's article on America's Christian Right in the UK. Fantastic stuff!

If it weren't for the team @101filmsuk.bsky.social, I may never have got to see this Jan Egleson gem. Black comedy at its best! ❤️ And Michael Caine puts in a great shift as always 👍

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

Connor v Connor. In their last home game of the season, the @nhlblackhawks.bsky.social lost to @winnipegjets.com. The game went to penalties. It was great to see #Bedard scoring this one against #Hellebuyck, who is possibly the best goalie in the #NHL right now.

Why do some regions climb the global value chain while others stumble? It’s less what you have, more who you link with, say @eduherro.bsky.social, @ronboschma.bsky.social @andrea-morrison.bsky.social & Ye. Complementarity—not proximity—is the magic dust. Knowing who matters. doi.org/10.1080/1366...

"Children of Men" is a brilliant film and very clever, too. Based on the P. D. James, it's a story about hope, despair, survival, and the human cost of societal collapse. Probably Clive Owen's best on screen performance. Great work by director Alfonso Cuarón.

This is how I remember Ash youtu.be/Xw--hFokmsg?... I always thought they had catchy songs from a young age, they were teenagers when they wrote "Kung Fu". It's a rocket tune.

"Mikey and Nicky" (1976) is a great release from @criterion.bsky.social. I had only heard of it, never got to see it until now. Technically it's a gangster movie featuring small-time gullible mobsters impacted by betrayal. Elaine May's script is colourful and marvellous.

Legend! Which university will Miss Piggy be speaking at?! 🤭

Is it beyond Donald Trump or anyone from his insane clown posse to satirise themselves? This would at least enable them to acknowledge that they haven't made a mistake, but instead are responsible for a massive blunder. And how dare Hegseth discredit Jeffrey Goldberg and the @theatlantic.com.
