“If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.” A classic quote from Malcolm X, who was assassinated 60 years ago today.

Tyranny requires your fear, your silence, and your compliance. Democracy requires your courage.

I’ll keep pushing this line of analysis because I’m increasingly convinced the clearest path out of this mess is for Dems to adopt a relentless anti-corruption, anti-inequality, anti-oligarchy, pro-democracy platform. The Dem leadership hasn’t realized it yet, but they’re now a reform party.

Over the past 40 years, 90% of economic gains have gone to the wealthiest 1%. Meanwhile, working families are struggling—whether they’re juggling four jobs just to make ends meet or earning $400,000 a year but still feeling financially strained. 1/7

Yes, true. Except, media's doing the same. Big business is doing the same. Universities are doing the same. All the institutions & leaders are failing us.

For the people who still believe that facts matter

Take note of the messaging - this is both accurate and *deeply* unpopular. It's the kind of thing that forces GOP House members to quietly tell their constituents that they too are concerned about Musk. Make them own this. Make them squirm.

Last night, Trump promised he wouldn't touch Medicaid. This morning, Trump endorsed the House Republican plan to slash Medicaid. It's smoke and mirrors: Trump and Republicans are plotting to take away health care from millions of people to pay for tax breaks for billionaires.

Welcome to the resistance Mr Pence

Follow the thread, great info

This whole post from @danpfeiffer.bsky.social feels like politics 101, but it’s plainly one our Dem leaders need to read and absorb. open.substack.com/pub/messageb...

@chrismurphyct.bsky.social: "The question is can you work with Republicans in the middle of a constitutional crisis when democracy is on the line? And right now, I think that this crisis is serious and deepening in its seriousness, that our job #1, #2, and #3 is to save our democracy."

Sen. Brian Schatz: "I do think we are there's a real chance that in 6 months that Trump consolidates power in a way that is more similar to autocrats in Belarus or Turkey or elsewhere, but it is not a foregone conclusion."

As a political scientist who studies countries that managed to stop the slide into authoritarianism, I can assure you that ***refraining from provoking the authoritarian*** is not how it works. Without further ado, I will now go tear out another chunk of hair.

Captures it perfectly.
