Is he, you know... Bussy-fingered? I'm going to enjoy this history of English elections.

@bengazur.bsky.social finally getting around to reading A Feast Of Folkore - i had it for Christmas, along with several other books on food and music, my favourite things. I passed on the part about parking your naked arse on the soil of your allotment to my brother-in-law!

According to German folklore frogs climb upwards when it is sunny. So frogs were kept in jars with little ladders as a way of predicting the weather. #FolkloreThursday

According to Nicholas Culpeper cabbages are "as windy meat as can be eaten, unless you eat bag-pipes or bellows." Welsh folklore says "If thou desirest to die, eat cabbage in August." #FolkloreThursday

If it rained on Holy Thursday bakers would rush out to collect the water. A little added you their dough would ensure bread baked perfectly. For more food folklore why not order my book, A Feast of Folklore? #FolkloreThursday uk.bookshop.org/p/books/a-fe...

Signed the contract for my next book today! Can't say much at the moment but... Sic semper tyrannis!

I would absolutely wear this copy of the crown of the Holy Roman Empire, made by Xinyi Chen. It was made from electronic components and on display in Goldsmiths Guild.

One for the #FolkloreThursday crowd! Offer ends today - 25% off The Story of Witches via the Waterstones website or app using code PREORDER25 at checkout! #witches #folklore

They are doing tin glaze on Pottery Throwdown. I love finding sherds of tin glaze when mudlarking. This little image of a coffee pot is one of my favourite finds.

I love a garden with strange objects. We have a local 'Tree of lost and found things'. Who doesn't love a Megalograptus?

I had the foreshore (briefly) all to myself this morning. It was glorious. The river gifted me little bits of Roman pottery decorated with dots.

Today I choose to shrink myself down and live in a magical Alpine microforest.

Another of the daily drawings from the Covid Year 2021🌞

Hope someone got you a love tokens for Valentine's Day. I wrote about some of my favourites for Mental Floss. www.mentalfloss.com/love-tokens-...

Happy Valentine's Day! Last year I married my lovely husband. We had rings made which included garnets I had found while mudlarking.

Found when sorting an old drive. I still, very occasionally, say 'not many badgers in the House of Lords' and this is why:

Bread pudding is the ultimate pudding. This is a Hill I will die on.

Titanique is the play of the year.

Looking for a suitable Valentine's gift? I wrote about weird love tokens from history for Mental Floss. I love the ones which will be featuring in the upcoming mudlarking exhibition at London Museum. www.mentalfloss.com/love-tokens-...

Today was a tiny bead sort of mudlarking day.

Support your local bookshops.

In a 1660 recipe for wedding pies there was an unusual ingredient. Entertain your guests by placing a live snake in the middle of the pie so that it slithers out when cut open. #LegendaryWednesday For more fun food history see my book of food folklore. www.amazon.co.uk/Feast-Folklo...

The sun rises on screen, everyone screams "Rosy fingered Dawn!" Schoolboys in the audience start tittering.

If #bluesky is an echo chamber, then let it be filled with the weirdest, nerdiest content! The mummified hand of an executed criminal holding a candle made from human fat was once believed to render a person who carried it invisible. It was called the “Hand of Glory.” This one's from Whitby Museum.

An absolutely fabulous read, packed with delicious food-themed folklore. Highly recommend!

My book of food folklore is full of edible divination! Need to dream of your future spouse? Pop some wedding cake under your pillow. Or bake a 'dumb cake'. Or put an onion under your pillow on St Thomas' Day. Buy your copy here: www.amazon.co.uk/Feast-Folklo... #FolkyFriday

Please can you help @hellenicsociety.bsky.social. They have left X 🥳 and would like to be added to relevant starter packs. Give them a follow. And please reskeet!

Just had a baby? Make sure you get a groaning cheese! The cheese was helpful to build up strength post birth but also lets you bless the baby. Once the cheese was hollow the baby was passed through the rind. #FolkloreThursday For more food lore see my book here: www.amazon.co.uk/Feast-Folklo...

Really looking forward to seeing all the fabulous folklore tomorrow - join us for #FolkloreThursday!

People don't write poetry this good any more.

That's my Twitter accounts deleted.
