If we remember that it's always projection, we get at the root. These are tacit admissions of what they've done, or what they would do. Remember Musk is an absentee co-parent who has played little to no role in his company's real work, but skates (and fills his schedule) with the publicity.

It is almost always about projection with them. Remember how their whole axe to grind with "the Biden crime family" revolved around shady economic relationships in Ukraine?

If we come out of this without realizing this is what it looks like when a "businessman" takes political office, we'll be in a spot like this again too soon after. A businessman doesn't care about your economy, he cares about his.

This just reminded me of how popular Bolsonaro was among a lot of the best Brazilian footballers.

Looks like he put his country first.

The media focused on the phone call Trump made to Team USA, but didn't mention the call he made to Binnington.

Pretty much every play-by-play bio of an American player goes, "He hails from <suburb>, just outside of <major city>." White flight wasn't always such an important subtext of the U.S. squad, but it sure is now (partly) bc the game is so damn expensive to play stateside.

Nothing more achingly "please like my sport" than bootlicking just to get a phone call in return.

My brother and his partner are in #architecture, and doing some pretty cool things. Their most recent work: youtu.be/pVwpXLD2dE0?...

I am capturing this in-case it's taken down. This is real. This happened. The cruelty is the point.

Wouldn't mind a high scoring game, actually, bc I know which way Binnington leans, too.

As per usual, fighting pumped up the Americans and they ride the energy to an early lead...oh, wait. 1-0 Canada just 5 minutes in. EL o EL

Americans coming out guns blazin' doesn't do much to contradict the imperialist bs.

Rooting for Canadians tonight. I have zero interest in supporting American nationalism. A lot of the American players voted for Orange Julius, boys, they're just too embarrassed to say it in the press. Tune 'em up.

No joke, if the NHL wanted to break out of its niche, it would hammer on this note. Too bad their player population is rife with MAGAbonds

One thing I've really grappled with in recent years is how highly-rated defenseman prospects are going into the NHL Draft. Much in the same way that goalies have dropped out (or to the bottom) of the 1st round, D seem like they should be artificially lower for their uncertainty, too. 1/3

I mean, they have a word for what he's doing, a word the Founders used often: tyrant. He is being a tyrant.

A lotta talk about Guenther on this goal, but holy hell what a goalie pass by Ingram players.brightcove.net/641571836500...

Better version of the video, folks. It wasn't just that one guy blocking the door.

Well, on a positive note, kinda cool The Science of Sleep was one of the films selected to stream for free on YouTube. Quirky little film with Gondry and Bernal still in the peak of their careers.

"Game used."

No, like really. You are the most lawyered-up people in this nation--go get arrested. Think of John Lewis, for chrissake...y'know, that guy whose name you stamped on the legislation you couldn't get passed? "Good trouble"?

It occurs to me, for no reason in particular, that I should put this starter pack back in circulation go.bsky.app/3h6n3YC

Congressional Democrats need to see this as a fight for their lives. Like there will be no bigger fight in their lifetimes.

Sculptor Augusta Savage in her studio in 1937. She was the first African-American woman to open her own art gallery in the U.S.

This Fiona Apple narrated explainer PSA on how to film (and release footage from, not livestream) ICE arrests is exactly what we need from people with production skills right now and is worth about 3 million celebrity “imagine” covers in terms of survival utility

One side is so far removed from what Americans broadly support that "common ground" with them would not, fundamentally, be common ground.

Remarkable how many new big infrastructure projects in Africa replicate the colonial-era model of connecting mines to ports (and nowhere else).

i think it is important to say that the open and explicit racism of the president and the vice president isn’t just uncouth or “controversial” but a direct attack on tens of millions of americans and a dereliction of their duty to represent the entire country

every book about baseball & every book about hockey

Without fail, the classroom again reminds me why I'm in the right profession. There is plenty of despair out there, but the classroom is where you get to be part of people trying to figure how to make things work going forward. To get the chance to incorporate history into that process is evergreen.

Ghana's vile anti-LGBTQ+ bill is 'effectively dead', country's president says

1. It wasn't that they didn't do enough; the Harris ticket doubled-down on supporting Israel's human rights abuses. It wasn't an individual statement, it was collective principle. 2. Not voting for Harris =/= voting FOR Trump 3. This approach only divides the people closest to your own politics.

So begins a NHL data analyst's worst nightmare.

The more I think about it, the more I think what tipped the election towards Trump was a "You know what? Lie to me" vote. In other words, the kind of candidate upon which certain voters simply project what they want. Biden couldn't be that candidate, bc he was the current acting President. 1/2

You could argue there has never been a "DEI Era" in the first place. People with power have resisted or equivocated DEI from the outset. It was mostly a rhetorical shift, akin (& really, a direct descendant) to the talk about CRT. The main difference was HR had to change the name of a couple things.
