In tech there is an idiom that people overestimate the impact of a technology in the short term and underestimate it long term. I propose there should be a similar one in politics: people overestimate the damage caused by bad policy in the short term and underestimate the damage long term.

I have this essay in my head about how ideas are just viruses. Like we could talk about them as a biological animal: how they spread and reproduce, how they feed, how contagious certain ideas are. Sure we can't see the animal but I can't see a virus either.
