International Womens' Day kind of shines a light on #Israel's # warcrimes https://www.unwomen.org/en/news-stories/press-release/2024/03/press-release-9000-women-have-been-killed-in-gaza-since-early-october

Why on earth does the #guardian headline give trump the last word? It's like the news from Washington. They're fuckwits

Far & away the best account of it I've read, Hilaire Belloc on the French Revolution

Please retweet! (well, you know what I mean!) Can't believe it's not trending! Facebook Founder & Convicted Paedophile Mark Zuckerberg, Dead at 36 headline in the papers today!! Is it true?!

Elon Musk is starting to fund politically motivated litigation in the United Kingdom.

Prayer and prosecutions: the US ‘hate group’ waging war over Britain’s abortion clinic buffer zones - www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f... the religious nutters are on the move: stand by to repel... #vance #abortion

Gosh, chilly out there this morning!

You just couldn't make it up if you tried...

Meanwhile in London... 💪Childrens' clothes on the clothesline representing the 21,000 children who've been murdered so far by Israel

2019 Moscato, pressed/free-run, a rather lovely amber gold, picked 26/9, 27/9 (later than sometimes), natural fermentation 3 days open on skins, no sulphites, pressed, then steel & dj, unfined/unfiltered. around 150 bottles (50cl). lovely skins on the nose. dry, light, clean, distinctly Moscato.

& spring doing it's thing

A bit deer nibbled, gift from my neighbour :) & supper tonight!

It's part of the ominous background in Heinrich Böll's memoir What's to become of the boy. He's a wondefully human writer.

It's a beautiful axe & will be a job well done, but I look at the date (it's a German make) & can't help fretting whether their axes might have been used to behead the young men & women of the early anti-Nazi resistance.

Gosh look at the sun!

Marriage of Figaro matinée/dress rehearsal yesterday at ENO, brilliantly minimalist production played for sublime music & laughs, witty, clever, deeply silly, beautiful #ENOfigaro

Why do we keep buying crap which comes wrapped in #plastic? What happened to the power of saying No!?

#Fantastic #noplastic I love these birthday cards!

(I also discovered from the gallery text for the Duncan Grant/Ka Cox that I'm a Neo-Pagan. I'm basking in that label!) gallerycollections.courtauld.ac.uk/object-p-193...

We went to the #Courtauld yesterday to see the Cézannes et al. Hemingway says he learned to write by studying Cézannes. (James Baldwin also says, a painter can teach you how to write.) Extraordinary geometry he extracts from the trees in L'Etang des Soeurs, Osny

A rather brilliant little essay on hyphenation! www.sussex.ac.uk/informatics/... thx en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_T...

This arrived *incredibly* promptly from #greeninkbooksellers! Happy new year :)

Though the writers are overwhelmingly American (13 to 3, 11 to 5) not sure if that's accidental or an artefact of the collapse of English-English publishing

Enjoying this xmas present, reading the Didion & thinking I would like to look at the novels again.

I watched Trading Places yesterday and remembered how when I first saw it our VCR had missed the first 15-20 mins and so the reveal that “it was for a bet!” came as a massive exciting surprise. The skills of just making sense of what’s going on when you walk in late… those are writing & life skills

That Substack thread: "There is no such thing as a perfect place on the internet. But it’s possible to avoid the ones that aren’t even pretending to try to be better." Yep

New: I wrote about Substack's splashy new partnership with Bari Weiss, what it's been like in the year since Substackers Against Nazis, and why you really need to get the fuck out of there: www.thehandbasket.co/p/substack-a...

Re tech. All platforms are poisoned platforms? Discuss

Macon more or less, fab sky this evening

TIL from @marisakabas.bsky.social that Substack wants to be known as "friend to Bari Weiss" yet another poisoned platform. www.thehandbasket.co/p/substack-a...

on the tgv to Paris, just finishing reading Djilas on Tito, it's a sad story really. all the usual questions. what becomes of the revolution after the revolution. but wldn't that be a nice problem to have?

In a new initiative, Editorial Board members are writing extended review essays of recently published books that provoke debates important to the journal. First up, Daniel Neyland on Discounting the Future by Liliana Doganova, published by Zone Books www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

To all you AI experts. It seems like my life’s work is being sold by publishers to companies that will use it to train machines. As authors do we have no copyright control over the use of our work for such purposes?

(I'm guessing the finishing school for bluesky followbots is ChatGPT & co. Ain't AI wonderful? Just wanna travel the world & have fun, me)

Just brushing up on my Situationist history... Debord to Sanguinetti to Teresa Mattei (S's mum) partisan, Communist, member of postwar Constituent Assembly, & she it is to whom we owe mimosa in Italy as the symbol of International Women's Day. Lovely!

Catching up with yesterday's la Repubblica Sunday supplement #Robinson, it's so much better than anything on offer in the UK, page after page after page of writers & books, equal billing for small press reviews, just so lovingly *literate*!

low intervention, skin contact, natural fermentation, demijohn aged, unfiltered, cantina bottled, no added sulphites (or anything else), small vineyard, dry moscato. buzzword compliant :) handmade in #piemonte

I first saw one in action at #rawwine london bottling from barrel, a french make, this is a local #gaia, a baby, knee high & a bit. a beautiful machine :)
