Trump is closing a major airport to accommodate a military parade for his birthday – the parade is estimated to cost as much as $45 million. This coming from the president who said little girls are fine with 2 dolls not 30. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

Love this description: “an army of gullible smooth-brains: remorseless, hateful fools who will agree to any amount of cruelty as long as it’s inflicted on people they see as lower than they are—usually brown people who speak a different language.” It’s the same gang that’s trying to ban books.

Hey, P’Town, “The Librarians” is coming! “The Librarians” is coming! June 12 & 13. @thelibrariansfilm.bsky.social. Info & tix: provincetownfilm.org/films/the-librarians

The puzzle table at my HS library was always popular. Kids who might not normally engage with each other cooperated to connect pieces. Even those who were just walking by would linger a while to find a piece. It was a joy to watch.

Not because he’s an ally of Musk’s or because of any conflicts of interest. Because he gave to Dem candidates. bsky.app/profile/nyti...

"This is not all a buildup to say, 'I have seen the future of the Resistance, and its name is Bruce Springsteen.' (That said: Bruce, if you’re reading this. . .) But it’s clear that Americans depressed over Trump need inspiration to keep fighting."

The complete lack of empathy for others is what everyone in the MAGA coalition has in common and holds the various groups together: Evangelicals, white nationalist, tech oligarchs, conspiracy-mongers, etc.

Elon Musk grabbed our personal information, and now, Peter Thiel's Palantir appears to be one of the vehicles Trump will employ to use it against us. Don't worry; they'll continue reassuring us it will only be used to create a better world. (For them.)

Nothing sincere about it. When she snarkily brings up the tooth fairy, she is an inserious troll.

⚡️ President Zelenskyy will attend the inaugural mass of newly elected Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican on Sunday, May 18. The Vatican has confirmed his presence among other invited world leaders.

Faces of the EU leaders after they hung up the phone with Trump earlier this week. I recommend zooming in on each one of them.

Promise to Kill DEI, and Trump’s FCC Will Approve Anything Verizon's $20 billion deal to buy Frontier got approved once the company agreed to end DEI programs. gizmodo.com/promise-to-k...

Arab Force One is either a gift or a bribe. The law forbids both. But who can actually block the transfer? Read more from @eggerdc.bsky.social in today's Morning Shots

ICE just arrested the Mayor of Newark after pushing and shoving peacefully assembled members of Congress outside of a detention center. ‼️‼️

If Joe Biden had accepted a $400 million dollar ANYTHING from the funders of Hamas, Republicans would have lost their goddamn fucking minds.

So as Trump prepares to ride off into the sunset on his Qatari magic carpet (now with turbulence and tax write-offs!), remember: Hillary Clinton couldn’t keep a necklace. Donald Trump gets a $400 million bribe with extra legroom and a built-in tanning bed. open.substack.com/pub/jojofrom...

The Home Depot has quietly removed the section of its website that championed its commitment to DEI. Retail Brew asked for comment on why it took down its DEI page and whether it was a response to Trump anti-DEI approach. The company did not respond. www.retailbrew.com/stories/2025...

I must say, watching a video of a smokestack for hours on end sure makes for gripping television.

Black smoke is pouring out of the Sistine Chapel chimney, indicating no pope was elected on the first ballot of the conclave to choose a new leader of the Catholic Church.

I'm inviting Secretary McMahon to the Senate for a public forum next week. If McMahon thinks destroying public education is a good idea, she should have no problem showing up and giving us some answers.

We can throw away $120,000,000 flipping fighter jets into the sea, but can’t afford to give the pilots healthcare when they retire.

Orlando City Commissioner Tony Ortiz just switched from Republican to Democratic. “The Republican Party is not the party I signed up with... The marginalization of Latinos and immigrants—many of whom have helped build this country—is not leadership. It’s fear-based politics.”

House Republicans have added a provision to their sweeping tax cut package that would authorize the sale of thousands of acres of public lands in Nevada and Utah, prompting outrage from Democrats and environmental groups.

Would MAGA and the right-wing media have stopped talking about Biden’s ‘cognitive decline’ if he won the election? No. So you don’t have to stop talking about Trump’s accelerating derangement and shitshow of a government. Elections should not be events that silence or gag people in a democracy.

Perfect tweet 🏆

“They targeted the wrong profession … We will stand up for every American’s constitutional rights. We will stand up for the 1st Amendment. We will stand up to make sure that libraries are not shuttered, because the day that libraries are shuttered in America is the day that democracy dies.”

Everything old is new again: “Many librarians lived in fear of losing their jobs or facing prosecution because of the contents of their libraries.”

Mike Waltz has left the chat.

“The Librarians is essential viewing and one of the many vanguard explorations of our current social and political erosion.”
