The more I think about it the more I believe that autonomous semis will provide a new market for moving electricity without transmission lines. Battery densities are rising quickly... Off grid systems can be paid for their electricity generation. www.slashdot.org/story/441625

Records are meant to be broken One day after records set on CA grid, they are broken Sun, May 25, 2025: 82% of 24-h demand met by WindWaterSolar 10.5 h of >100% WWS WWS met a peak of 158.2% of demand 72nd straight & 113 of 145 (78%) of all days in '25>100% Gas down 44% v '23

Battery chemistries are moving to lower cost materials: manganese, silicon, sodium (not mentioned in article). "far less nickel, cobalt and other minerals that have become increasingly expensive" www.slashdot.org/story/442467

The future of sodium batteries actually seems quite good! People are saying that in the future they can have MUCH higher densities than lithium batteries. youtu.be/jfsijkfTrT0?...

Don't invest in "green funds" without looking at their holdings... www.slashdot.org/story/442235

According to Will Prowse (who as far as I can see knows what he's talking about) the round trip efficiency of Sodium batteries is 60-92% whereas a LiFiPo4 is 95-99%! With about half the cycles! Less energy density! Salt batteries need to win on price or they make no sense. youtu.be/RO2I9911Mms?...

"Ninety percent of the carbon impact from buildings is concrete and steel in the construction of the building.” www.slashdot.org/story/442033

Lithium manganese-rich (LMR) batteries are helping to continue battery density improvement trends. Keep in mind that EV improvements help people who can't charge everyday (apartments, condos, parking garages, etc) the most In other words the gains open up new markets www.slashdot.org/story/442035

FYI, it looks like Just Have A Think is issuing a rebuttal of sorts to the paper that he reviewed last week. The paper had a new and unusual metric that had Animal Ag as worse than FFs. @christianonre.bsky.social @mzjacobson.bsky.social youtu.be/bCkPXBXGsIQ?...

The data are in: Battery-electric cars require only 40% the repairs as internal-combustion-engine (ICE) cars BEVs: 4.2 breakdowns/year per 1,000 vehicles ICEs: 10.4 breakdowns/year per 1,000 vehicles www.carscoops.com/2025/04/new-...

Really insightful! Suggests "Effective Radiative Forcing" (ERF) metric. Mentions pollution cooling effects as well! And the revelation that Animal Ag may be WORSE than FFs (on gross)! @mzjacobson.bsky.social @christianonre.bsky.social youtu.be/Y9f16OTL1Lg?...

Interesting information on CCS from sea water. Note - Nothing about this seems scalable, and probably won't be scalable. www.slashdot.org/story/441053

If I recall correctly an X Prize from 20 years ago had roughly the same results: biochar and mixing pulverized rocks with farming soil. www.slashdot.org/story/441369
