Lots of major equipment was fabricated for the Clinch River Breeder. Here's testing of the reactor closure head. The rotating plugs allow fuel handling without opening up the reactor. Inset rotating plugs allow you to reach all core positions. Thanks to @AaloAtomics for making this scan possible.

I'm a research engineer, we work with federal labs all the time. We collaborate, write proposals together etc. The current chaos has everyone guessing what's next. Large numbers of early retirements also complicate things. Right now we don't know if last year's proposals won or lost.

I was talking to a friend who is teaching jr. high/high schoolers about the space race. I told him, don't forget to let everyone know Russia has nukes pointed at us. He was surprised by this, his response was you never know what people say may or may not be true. This was very disappointing.

Of things you wouldn't think I'd ever need to say "Don't fuck in the radioactive materials use area" is, sadly, not on that list. Also "A condom is prophylaxis against VD and pregnancy. I applaud you for that, but doesn't do shit for all the contamination in that room. Now I have to survey you."
