From dried out markers, to dyed water, to squeezing with pipettes… our second go around with colour mixing involves paper towels so we can keep our mixed creations. (Previously we used ice cube trays to mix colours using the same pipettes.) #kindergarten #earlyyearssky 1/2

Transitioning to here from ‘that’ other place and keen to link and connect with others in ECE to learn, think and work together. All things early years but fascinated with the power of the arts, creativity and pedagogies which support participation, listening and thinking through materials.

We are constantly trying to find ways to keep it organized, to keep creations intact & of course, problem solve who took whose piece. We decided to try one of our big rolling bins & want to see if hot glue or alien tape is strong enough to keep some flats stuck to the sides for mini Lego walls.

We use our calendar to discuss special events that are coming up, the kids love to count how many days until our next birthday celebration & the always exciting- PIZZA DAY! The purpose of our calendar time is to spend time as a community talking about what our time together will involve each day.

For those who’ve ever wondered why elementary schools have adult playground monitors during recess.

As part of our recent discussions around identity, inside and out, seeing people beyond skin colour and what makes us special, many of the children were excited to write and illustrate books about their families and the things that are special to them. 1/2 #earlyyearssky #kindergarten

I observed and took notes of a groups of students who were deeply engaged in their pretend play outside this morning. They moved to many different locations, it involved a great deal of roaring, and it appears that no one child was leading the play but it was a group consensus. 1/2 #edusky

I really appreciated the messaging in this episode. I’ve read Untangled and am going to look into The Emotional Lives of Teenagers. As an educator of littles I think there’s still tips that can be applied and because I work in a K-8 school, it’s important to be a support for the older kids, too.
