“You can’t normalize impunity.” “The role of journalists …is to hold power to account…You lose journalism the way we practice it you lose democracy.” Maria Ressa @newshour.bsky.social

Just as I’m feeling the compounding weight of personal and community grief: “the grief doesn’t mean action is hopeless, the action doesn’t mean the grief isn’t real and valid.” Rebecca Solnit (@rebeccasolnit.bsky.social)

Imagine leaders of a public University prohibiting its institutes, centers and academic departments from making “statements addressing matters of public concern or public interest." If you are an alum, student or supporter, tell the Regents what a mistake that is regents.umn.edu/contact-info...

Democrats are showing up. Literally. Rep. Pettersen (CO-7) cut short her maternity leave and flew across the country — with her newborn baby — to vote no. Rep. Mullin (CA-15) went straight from the hospital where he was being treated for surgery complications to the airport so he could vote no.

Praying this is a fluke and good sense prevails in Idaho.

Yes please

St. Paul was at the top of a Trump administration statement on Tuesday accusing sanctuary cities of letting “killers and rapists roam the streets.” It’s a claim that St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter was quick to debunk. buff.ly/437uasq

Soul refresher: learning to use water colors.

In the midst of the rise of Avian Flu in poultry and dairy cattle, just got confirmation from the Minnesota Dept. of Agriculture that of the 12 permanent employees of USDA in MN (that our MDA heavily relies on), two were laid off (one was asked back after being "accidentally" fired).

Sad news for the crafty

💥 BREAKING: At Apple's 2025 annual meeting of shareholders today, proposal entitled “Request to Cease DEI Efforts" is rejected by shareholders. Right-wing nonprofit National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR) proposal was also rejected by Costco shareholders 98-2 percent.

A little movement?

I commend the 14 Republican Minnesota Legislators who recognize the damage the U.S. House GOP budget would cause. It’s wrong to cut Medicaid — a healthcare lifeline for over a million Minnesotans with disabilities, seniors, and children — to give more tax breaks to billionaires like Elon Musk.

Your regular reminder that the US air & water pollution laws passed in the 60s & 70s -- and the elaborate federal bureaucracy created to administer them -- constitute one of the most successful gov't interventions in history. WILDLY successful. The envy of the world.

Twice as much funding goes to diseases that disproportionally affect men compared to those that mainly impact women. So … no?

Just saw a thread about a guy calling into cspan saying his diabetic supplies increased from 5 dollars to 80 dollars and somebody in the comments, probably multiple people but I stopped reading, replied “FAFO” and I can’t stress enough how much you need to stop doing that shit

We are honored to represent @nadohe.bsky.social, @aaup.bsky.social, Baltimore and ROC, who each bravely pushed back against Trump’s intimidation & scare tactics, securing a victory for women, minorities, people with disabilities, veterans, and so many more. From @zerotothree.bsky.social “The early childhood workforce is paid so little that nearly half live in families that depend on public assistance, such as food stamps and medical assistance.” Let that sink in. Now think about wringing profit from child care through venture capitol.

BREAKING — States attorneys general lead by @newyorkstateag.bsky.social were just granted a preliminary injunction in their case against DOGE. The team cannot access Treasury Department payment systems or data while the lawsuit proceeds. Major.

Just so everybody is clear on Republican priorities: We put up an amendment to make sure nobody making over $500 million gets a tax cut. Republicans voted against it.

Amid a wave of attempts by the Trump administration to defund public services, a coalition of labor unions gathered at the Minnesota Capitol Rotunda late Tuesday to demand funding for services, including education and health care. buff.ly/4b8ZY1T

This evening, the Minnesota house advanced HF 12 - a trans youth sports ban - out of the Education Policy Committee on a party-line 7-6 vote. This vote was fully expected. While it may come to the floor for a vote, we do not expect this bill to become law this session.

Tracking Trump: His actions on education

On this Day of Remembrance, we honor the 120,000 Japanese Americans unjustly imprisoned during WWII because of their heritage. Their resilience remind us to never forget the lessons of history. We will continue to fight for justice, equality, and civil rights for all.

G. Phillip Shoultz, III, of VocalEssence, said in the wake of the executive orders, as well as a move away from DEI language by corporations and funders, VocalEssence isn’t shifting its own values. buff.ly/4b49GTo

Minnesotans: another calling theme for contacting our senators @amyklobuchar.com @smith.senate.gov Stop the unelected billionaire who is breaking our government

Even the most disturbing RFK Jr. headline always manages to have a detail inside creepier than you could have imagined. I’m sorry, did you just say Black kids should have a chance to get “re-parented”???? Gift link wapo.st/4hW2xGI
