How do we talk about whether formula or discretionary grants are better when the outcome of all of it for over 30 years is so bad? Talk about being beside the point.

I am so annoyed that I didn't put this together myself. Makes total sense.

“To use a technical term, it blew my mind,” said Vancouver’s former chief planner Brent Toderian…”They weren’t lazy about it—they didn’t just throw up barriers and ban cars. It might be the best bargain I’ve ever heard,” Toderian said. #Montreal

"...the ~$1.5 trillion in surface transportation spending Congress has authorized since 1991 has utterly failed to improve safety, the state of repair, congestion or emissions. So why even consider putting more money into this broken program?' t4america.org/2025/02/25/a...

I wonder how this happened... Check out how "safe" they are: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ll2...

@USDOT ends congestion pricing because the toll rate was set primarily to raise revenue for transit rather than to reduce congestion. Tell me you don't know how to reduce congestion without saying you don't know how to reduce congestion. ops.fhwa.dot.gov/memorandum/V...

“They cut speed limits, changed street design, removed space for cars… Now it appears that work is paying off. Oslo & Helsinki are reaping the rewards of committed action on making their roads safer, reducing pedestrian fatalities to zero last year.” #VisionZero #SpeedKills #Oslo #Helsinki

Someone please tell Gov. Hochul that Trump is rolling back the discretionary programs he could use to invest in NYC, and his administration is opposed to transit. The rest is the money available from the feds is already with the state through formula. She will get burned and be blamed.

@washingtonpost.com ask the next question. When you ask your doctor for help, do they? Or do they blame you for suffering side effects? www.washingtonpost.com/wellness/202...

Historic funding in the IIJA means this report card will be GREAT news, riiiiiiiight? infrastructurereportcard.org/2025-release...

Our updated analysis finds that over $20 billion for projects currently underway across the country might be eliminated, according to new memos introduced by Secretary Duffy’s DOT. But don’t feel overwhelmed. We’ve got the information you need. t4america.org/2025/02/05/u...

We have an open RFP for technical experts on this year's Complete Streets Leadership Academy. This role provides important include workshop facilitation, community support, and technical advice in partnership with SGA staff. smartgrowthamerica.org/request-for-...

Reminder to federal agencies that are trying to steer funds to states with no vaccine mandate that *all 50 states* and the District of Columbia have vaccine mandates for children entering public school, particularly the MMR vaccine.

"...[if you're asking], 'Can they really do this?' They are. So that's been asked and answered. [If you're asking], 'Is it appropriate? Is it legal?' Well, we're not in that world anymore." usa.streetsblog.org/2025/01/30/w...

Growing up, whenever there was a recession, we always said that Detroit feels it first. Cars are big purchases that people can often (not always) put off. Its a fine howdy doo for Michigan voters.

@usdot.bsky.social what is your problem with safety exactly?

The @usdot.bsky.social and FAA restricts helicopter traffic in the area over the Potomac River around DCA to Wilson Bridge. Well done! Should have happened years ago. Now Congress needs to restrict the number of flights at DCA, as we knew was needed when I was on the Hill 20 years ago.

"The American transportation system could soon face unprecedented disruptions, the scope of which few U.S. residents may grasp – and its implications for sustainable transportation, specifically, are even more unclear." @bethosborne.bsky.social usa.streetsblog.org/2025/01/30/w...

@SecDuffy @USDOT stops work on the road to zero grants because preventing people from dying on the most dangerous roadways in the developed world is woke agenda and they will not have it!!! www.nsc.org/road/resourc...

Remember when Sen. Capito was *freaking out* b/c the FHWA Administrator wrote a memo suggesting they encourage state DOTs to fix crumbling roads and bridges? Bet she holds it together now that the Secretary wants transpo dollars to reward birth rates. 🫡 www.transportation.gov/sites/dot.go...

Sec Duffy's first action at @usdot.bsky.social included a call for better benefit-cost analyses. Couldn't agree more. The BCA needs a total overhaul (esp how time savings is monetized by not measuring time savings), and it needs to be easier for rural areas to do. t4america.org/community-co...

The funding freeze is on hold but the questions still exist. The Trump Administration is going to decide which programs and projects they will freeze later for being too woke. Who will decide this and by when? t4america.org/2025/01/29/c...

Confused about the chaos? Make Congress and the administration clarify the transportation funding freeze t4america.org/news-and-blog/

“...there is no such thing as a Lost Cause because there is no such thing as a Gained Cause. We fight for lost causes because we know that our defeat and dismay may be the preface to our successors’ victory, though that victory itself will be temporary...”― T.S. That was in response to this, btw... www.hklaw.com/en/insights/...

Hahahahahahahaha...no. We just kicked off anti-infrastructure week. Sorry, anti-infrastructure quarter. www.hklaw.com/en/insights/...

Trump repealed the Green New Deal (tooth fairy and other fictional creatures?) then halted IIJA disbursements for 90 days. Is he just halting new awards or refusing to reimburse project sponsors? Does he know? www.politico.com/news/2025/01...

While not intuitive, we found substantial evidence that pavement condition and funding are not well correlated. In other words, higher funding levels for a state provide little reason to expect better pavement. crcmich.org/dennis-fixin...

Can't we all come together and agree that stripes are needed on the pants of football jerseys? Without them, they look like jammies.
