A weekend in Greater Manchester has reminded me of just what we could have in Greater Glasgow if there was the political will. #buses #publictransport #Glasgow #Strathclyde @betterbusesspt.bsky.social

Thanks to everyone who came to our AGM last week πŸ‘ We're delighted to have so many new members keen to support our volunteer-run campaign for better public transport! πŸšΆπŸš΄πŸšŒπŸšŽπŸšƒ You can join us here: getglasgowmoving.org/join If you missed the meeting, look out for the recording coming soon...

Thanks to everyone who came to our Rally outside SPT this morning!πŸ‘ We're celebrating another small step on our journey to getting our region’s bus network back in public control🚍 SPT's newly published Bus Strategy sets out what's next πŸ‘‰ spt.production.d8.studio/media/vdolwdeb/sp210225_agenda8.pdf

Our transport authority, SPT, has finally published plans to bring our region's bus network back into public control over the next 5 years πŸšπŸ‘ πŸ‘‰ spt.production.d8.studio/media/vdolwdeb/sp210225_agenda8.pdf Join our Rally outside SPT's offices this Friday 21 February, 9:30am to show your support πŸ‘‡

Do you want to help support our volunteer-run campaign for better public transport?πŸšΆπŸš΄πŸšŒπŸšŽπŸšƒ Then please become a member & come to our 2025 Annual General Meeting this Weds 19 February, 6:30-8pm! πŸ“ Unite Scotland, 145-165 W Regent St, Glasgow, G2 4RZ

Oxford would be able to implement franchising in a fraction of the time we could in Scotland. Even if we started the process before them they'd have a franchised network up and running before we're even out the depot! Simpler legislation is needed @jimfairliesnp.bsky.social @fionahyslop.bsky.social

Unfortunately I can't make this but if you care about getting a better bus service and you can make it please give them your support.

Amazing to see Cambridgeshire & Peterborough become the 4th UK city-region to commit to bringing its bus network back into public control πŸ‘ It's the end of the road for bus deregulation 🚍 Help us make Strathclyde next! betterbuses.uk/strathclyde cambridgeshirepeterborough-ca.gov.uk/news/mayor-a...

A simple journey from Glasgow's Southside to the east takes a feat of exhausting mental maths - to the point just walking for two hours seems more appealing. How could the city sync up its transport? And why hasn't it?

On 21 February, SPT will publish the final draft regional bus strategy, which they began work on in June 2023 🚍 Join our Rally outside their offices to tell them again: Take Strathclyde’s Buses back into Public Control! πŸ—“οΈ Fri 21 February 2025, 9:30am πŸ“ 131 St Vincent St, G2 5JF

We're delighted that @unitetheunion.bsky.social's CRUK Scotland Institute Branch are supporting our campaign to take our region's buses back into public control🚍πŸ₯³ πŸ“¨ Get in touch if your org would also like to support us! 'What gives us hope is the change we can currently see happening in Greater Manchester' www.heraldscotland.com/opinion/2489...

Buses in Strathclyde are deregulated, meaning private companies like McGill's can hike up fares as they please πŸšπŸ’Έ In the two UK city-regions where buses are franchised, fares remain frozenπŸ‘‡ Manchester = Β£2.00 with the Bee Network London = Β£1.75 with TfL www.glasgowlive.co.uk/news/glasgow...

SPT are publishing their final draft regional bus strategy on 21st Feb, followed by a public consultation. Sign both BBFS petitions: www.megaphone.org.uk/petitions/ta... petitions.parliament.scot/petitions/PE... And keep your eyes peeled for public meetings across the Strathclyde in the Spring!

The West Midlands are now consulting on bringing their bus network back into public controlπŸšπŸ‘ This makes them the 6th UK city region to move forward with bus franchising... We need SPT to get a move on here! Join our campaign at: betterbuses.uk/strathclyde www.tfwm.org.uk/consultation...

Today Greater Manchester makes history🚍 They've finally finished the process of taking all the region's buses back into public control, which began in 2017πŸ‘ All bus fares are now Β£2, allowing you to change routes as many times as you need within an hourπŸͺ™ We need this in Strathclyde now!

"There's one person in Scotland who could sort out the mess our bus services are in – it's Transport Secretary @fionahyslop.bsky.social" That's the challenge to ScotGov to accelerate bus franchising powers 🚌 πŸ“ petitions.parliament.scot/petitions/PE2116 www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/2478852...

Please sign - petitions.parliament.scot/petitions/PE2116 Big Fergus prioritising voice of bus operators reflects how out of touch our govt. are on transport. If they genuinely wish to combat child poverty - then regular, reliable, affordable public transport for those on low incomes is a must.

We were at the Scottish Parliament yesterday for the first hearing of our petition to "Accelerate the implementation of bus franchising powers"🚌 Thanks to the MSPs who came to support us!πŸ‘ We look forward to returning in the New Year Sign the petitionπŸ‘‡ petitions.parliament.scot/petitions/PE2116
