This will devastate so many of our young bright students. I work with lots of high school students and they are very aware and concerned about the future of science in the U.S.

🌎 New article form Bioinformatics Advances: "mapPat: tracking pathogens evolution in space and time" Find it here:

If anyone (scientist or not) thinks the money “saved” from cuts being proposed to NIH indirects will simply be added to NIH direct costs, hence “increasing” the amount of research, then I’ve a super looking bridge to nowhere to sell to you.

That the White House feels the need to push back on this is good news. It means they are feeling the heat, and it's not just being seen as an inside baseball issue. Because it's not. Keep pushing! Keep calling! Keep fighting!

For those who aren't accustomed to the normal style of these NIH notices, here's claude.ai's analysis: There are several unusual aspects to the language and style of this notice: 1. The tone is notably argumentative and reads more like a policy argument or position paper than a typical NIH notice.

Do the math!

Been thinking a lot today about the words of this NIH researcher, speaking about morale at the agency: “Every day there’s something new, some new curveball… I think a lot of people are worrying, what is my backup plan?” www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

There must be a weak point we can act upon.

From the 52 Biodata resources listed on the GCBR website globalbiodata.org/what-we-do/g... 24 exist in the US, and of those, 12 are NOT mirrored, officially. Of these 52 resources, 29 are supported by the NIH. If Trump/Musk continue, we are FUBARed! #Bioinformatics #Genomics #SciPo 🧬 🖥️ 🧪

I was honoured with a @genomecanada.bsky.social societal impact award tonight. Genome Canada/AB/BC give key support to sing-canada.ca, Indigenous researchers who do genomics for Indigenous communities. Tonight was bittersweet while Indigenous scientists across the border are in triage mode.
