Everyone who makes innovative hardware or software to work with #midi is invited to submit their projects/products (both commercial and non-) to the 2025 MIDI Innovation Awards: midi.org/innovation-awards This year we introduce a new award category for best MIDI 2.0 project!

I owe @darcyjamesargue.com an apology. More than once I made light of his complaints about the Mr Softee truck parked outside his window. Living in an urban neighborhood now where it’s getting warmer, I am coming to understand the actual severity of this. Let’s see if I make it through the summer.

This all gets much simpler when you understand that genres describe audiences, not music www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...

New Pynchon novel this fall along with the release of a film that appears to be a PT Anderson adaptation of Vineland? Yes, please. www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/316427...

Back in January I had a conversation with a neighbor about selling our house and moving. She told me that they also planned to sell their house, but were waiting for the inauguration so the economy would "pop out of the hole Biden left it in". Should check Zillow and see if they listed it yet.

I've been quiet here: 3 weeks ago we moved into our new place in Philadelphia and 2 weeks ago I started my new job (actually my old job at Art+Logic where I worked from 1997-2021.) All my music gear is still packed away to encourage me to get fully into a groove before starting anything new.

Going to see the Pat Metheny Group in concert. I will not be taking questions.

Who do I know in Philadelphia? We're moving there in 2 weeks, and I'm looking forward to getting plugged into the music and tech scenes there, especially the intersection of those two scenes...

Time to switch to Facebook and watch relatives and high school teachers moan about Kendrick. Almost certain that someone will try to tag me in as the only musician they know to back them up.

Completely ready now for the commercial with flying merkins. Can’t imagine what the product would be, tho.

Nice CBS piece on the Guthman Musical Instrument competition aired this weekend. @jeffalbert.com are you in here? I saw a fast shot of Alexandria... www.youtube.com/watch?v=9W5h...

Thoughtful piece from @gewang.bsky.social on GenAI; my day job is working on instruments that are approachable by musical novices, and I'm glad that any mentions of the topic at work get slapped down quickly.

I've built a machine that can be Confidently Wrong. It can also make pictures that all look a bit the same, as well as make a video of you kissing any celebrity or person you know. In payment, I'd like to boil the world's oceans dry, & steal all literature. For some reason, my head is not on a spike

Thank you, @criterion.bsky.social, for making this available for free viewing, no account required: www.criterionchannel.com/david-lynch-...

In honour of today’s celebrations here is your daily earworm and timeline zen.

Nice article on the recently approved Network #MIDI 2.0 protocol to send MIDI 1.0 / 2.0 data over ethernet and wireless LAN. There will be a big compatibility demo at the #NAMM Show next week, which I'm sad to be missing. midi.org/network-midi...

i am not claiming it would fix everything, but i don’t think it would hurt for every angsty zoomer and millennial and x-er who spends 16 hours a day being Mad Online to pick up an instrument and learn to play it just badly enough to play along with other angsty zoomers and millennials and x-ers
