Excited for this!

👀

On this date in 2019, I wrote about Gertrude Trevelyan's As It Was in the Beginning, which one reviewer called "almost unreadable in its intensity." Trevelyan's most stylistically daring novel is now in print again from @bhousepress.bsky.social neglectedbooks.com/?...

Without a marketing budget or bands of loyal podcasters, the Recovered Books series from @bhousepress.bsky.social relies on word of mouth recommendations. So it's neat to see little chain reactions reflected in our sales numbers. Lately, this very odd 1960s teen horror story seems to be taking off.

On this date in 2019, I wrote about William's Wife by GertrudeTrevelyan (1938). I found it as riveting and horrifying as watching a car crash.... When I set the book down, I felt as if all the air has been sucked from my lungs. And now it's back in print from @bhousepress! neglectedbooks.com/?...

🎉We're absolutely thrilled to share that Out of Earth has been longlisted for the Dublin Literary Award. 💛A huge congratulations to author Sheyla Smanioto, translators Sophie Lewis and Laura Garmeson, and the other longlisted novelists, translators, and publishers!

I haven't, needless to say, read all of the books on the Dublin Literary Award longlist. But of those I have read, my choice for the award would be Out of Earth by Sheyla Smanioto, translated from the Portuguese by Sophie Lewis and Laura Garmeson, pub. @bhousepress.bsky.social

This will be amazing! Why not go along if you’re local? 👀

Chuffed with this year’s Christmas books. Beautiful quality from @bhousepress.bsky.social and Wave Poetry.

On a Zoom call today, a UK writer told me that she was drawn to the Recovered Books series from @bhousepress.bsky.social because "It's never safe, it never goes cozy." Off camera, my feet did a happy dance.

I've just finished reading this courtesy of #recoveredbooks at Boiler House Press. It's definitely staying on the To Be Read Again shelf! Complex and elegiac, a woman trapped in a role which she feels she doesn't fit...For a work that's nigh on 100 years old, it reads as very modern.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Norman Macleod's The Bitter Roots, just published by @bhousepress.bsky.social and the U. of Montana Press, is the wealth of contemporary events Macleod incorporates into his text. A thread (🧵) with some examples.

Remarkable review of Gertrude Trevelyan's As It Was in the Beginning, a Recovered Book from @bhousepress.bsky.social: "i was blown away the entire time i read this that it was originally published in 1934. what remarkable talent, and outlooks on human life. I GET IT: gutting. and real."
