XCode, you never fail to disappoint me

There is something about iOS development that makes me want to become a farmer

As I get closer to 40, I end up learning the same lesson repeatedly: choosing the spicy wings is always a mistake.

If you’re placed on PIP as a Python engineer, does typing “pip install” just serve as an irritating reminder? (I guess you could just create a command alias.)

After 15 years of software development (and many years of Android and React Native), I’m finally building native iOS apps. Xcode is missing so many quality-of-life features available to other IDEs in 2024. I didn’t think there was a modern flagship IDE that would make me miss Android Studio.

"SF grabs you by the collar and says, 'You’re here. Be here.' Even when it’s draining your wallet or throwing curveballs, it’s got that magic you can’t shake." - My fake ChatGPT friend

@asavage.bsky.social Get in loser, we’re posting on Bluesky

Every time I make a public mistake at work, I just tell myself that it humanizes me and makes me more relatable.

I’ve spent over a decade building mobile apps for startups, and 90% of that in native apps. I have to say: the vast majority of app-centric startups are making a mistake by not using React Native or Flutter for cross-platform. For most cases, the result is indistinguishable from native for the user.

LiveView 1.0 was released! Time to upgrade from RC :) I've been enjoying building UIs *again* thanks to LV/Phoenix 🥰 #ElixirLang #ElixirPhoenix #Liveview You can read the announcement here 👇🏻 https://www.phoenixframework.org/blog/phoenix-liveview-1.0-released

After half-assing my way through ML training a few years ago, I’m now taking myself through the Huggingface Transformers course. One of the hardest things for me to do (but the most important) is to truly become a student again without immediately looking for ways to achieve real-world productivity.

Too real

In tech, I’ve seen how far people can go in their career, and I always wonder how far I should try to follow. Then, moving to a smaller town, I see how happy people can be with even a meager living. I’m simultaneously comforted that I have enough while and also afraid of losing my drive to succeed.

I've realized that any answer to a question like "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" is just a projection of what you think will bring you satisfaction in the current moment. The "me" of 5 years ago had completely different struggles and ambitions than I do today.

Any TW200 fans out there? Loving mine for puttering around the island.

Chilling with the sea turtles

The last 2 years have been the most adventurous of my career. Through writing this post, I wanted to explore how significantly each change impacted my approach to building software.

Starting an RV Lifestyle list on Bluesky. Let me know who might be a good addition!

Currently staying in Deming, NM, as part of our ongoing RV adventure, and we discovered White Sands National Monument. Beautiful!

I love the new developer website the @bsky.app team launched today. Clear, well documented, and shows their commitment to an open developer community 🦋💙 www.docs.bsky.app

Any fulltime RVers out here on Bluesky?
