I’ve shared this before on other platforms, but presenting for your benefit: Ursula Le Guin's writing schedule.

nice well reasoned take you've got there. be a shame if somebody incorporated it into a metacommentary on the discourse and applied the principles at a higher level of abstraction.

Anaida Poilievre’s uncle lived undocumented in Canada and received help from her and an MP. The Conservative leader has said such individuals should be ‘tracked down’ and ‘deported’ From @breachmedia.ca:

AHS tells court wants to revise filing to fire former CEO for something it didn’t know about when it fired her. Meanwhile, in Florida, Danielle Smith and creepy far-right bloviator separate ‘schmucks’ from ‘allies.’ albertapolitics.ca/2025/03/ahs-...

Important to realize that Trump’s approach to Canada and Greenland is like his approach to Ukraine. It’s not even simply American imperialism. It is America enabling Russian imperialism. (1/3)

Real Human EDOC Cases in AB continued, PEDS 🧵 : - young child with a laceration to the face - peds emerg doc had to do sutures in a space in the waiting room so that the wait would not reach >24 hours after injury (delay = worse wound outcomes) 1/7 buff.ly/Jctf4Id

Calling it a historic moment in Alberta labour history, the Alberta Federation of Labour and 26 unions representing more than 300,000 workers on Wednesday announced a “Solidarity Pact” to combat anticipated attacks on workers’ pay and rights. @charlesrusnell.bsky.social reports. #ablab #uspoli

My grandfather got polio in his 20s. He was one of the lucky ones who lived and wasn't fated to an iron lung; but he lost function of his jaw. Spent the rest of his life chewing with his hand pushing his jaw around. If this gets on CNN my 105yr old grandma might actually just drop

I think about this at least once a day @ebeggin.bsky.social

Tariffs are on/off/paused, and are targeted/universal, applied to our friends/foes/everyone, starting sooner/later. They'll be in place for the short/long run because they are a useful policy/bargaining chip, and will solve our problem with fentanyl/trade deficits/manufacturing/revenue.

Forcibly removing tribal communities to get at natural resources tied to their homelands has been the rule, not the exception. More than half of the mineral deposits needed for a global energy transition are found near or beneath Indigenous lands. grist.org/indigenous/m...

Probablement la meilleure analyse de Pierre Poilièvre vient de celui qui a écrit une biographie sur lui.

All of the documentaries and movies about Roy Cohn matters so much to understanding this. He will never ever ever cave and all the pointing out hypocrisy just makes his refusal to capitulate look like strength.

Danielle Smith can't help but roll over and play nice with American far-right extremists because she has more in common with them than she does with Canadians. #BetterisPossible

“MY WIFE DOESN’T KNOW” I text to my wife

Its funny. Corey Robin's book was very controversial when he defined conservatism as a defense of hierarchical rule, and I got some push back for insisting that it was premised on a rejection of equality. Now a lot of conservative thinkers just affirm that view unambiguously and proudly.

This is an outstanding article by @zoeyunker.bsky.social for @thetyee.ca, documenting how higher fossil fuel prices were the leading cause of post-COVID inflation & hence Canadians' affordability concerns: thetyee.ca/News/2025/03.... Costs of the 2022 oil shock=$12000 per household over 3yrs. /2

Death Of Chopped-Up Woman Ruled A Suicide

Canada is 100x a better place to live than the US, but this "scientific paradise for those fleeing Trumpism" talk has got to go unless it's backed by something on a scale not seen since post-WWII US spending on science and universities.

I would potentially have a lot more time for headlines like this if there was any other way for many people to recognise that they are neurodivergent and start taking steps to actually improve their lives. As there aren't, as there is little support even when diagnosed, I have zero time for them.

I agree with Emmett. One party is promsing a 1 point cut to the lowest income tax rate; the other 2.25 points. Neither has proposed a credible way to pay for it. We need to see credible plans for big economic challenges and big defence/security threats. Hope that will be coming soon.

THIS. Leaders never listen more than during an election. Now is the time to apply pressure to push for the vision of Canada you truly believe in, not to defend bad policy

One of the hallmarks of liberal democracy is the peaceful transfer of power. That relies on both elite consensus around conceding defeat and losers' consent among the masses. Danielle Smith's behaviour this week has raised genuine concern on these fronts. +

Silver lining: these complaints illustrate how well informal social stigmatization works, even on ppl who otherwise seem untouchable due to wealth &/or positions of power. This was among the most surprising findings of my 17 yrs studying the ultra-rich; it's now a key tool for fighting autocracy.

We wouldn’t see these divisive articles if our thin flag-waving, elbows-up solidarity was accompanied by more robust distributive fairness.

electiontipline.ca is a thing I overheard on CBC1 just now for reporting online bot activity during the election...🤔

MAYBE INSTEAD OF DITCHING THIS RARE WIN VS OLIGARCHY: get together with the G7 countries with your outsized influence and agree on a minimum corporate & gains tax rate across the board.... & build the strongest economy in G7 NOT via a race to the bottom on the rich contributing anything?

hearing about the severance finale and trembling bc i wont have time to watch it until later/possibly tmrw

Did Jagmeet retire and the media forgot to cover it?

The big lesson of the last 50 years is that cynicism benefits authoritarians. As such, if liberals are ever able to regain power, we should prioritize restoring trust in institutions. The best way to do this is to mete out extremely harsh punishments against powerful people who abused this trust.

real men call the restaurant ahead of time to ask if they cook with seed oils and then explain they can't consume any seed oils because it exacerbates their quack podcast addiction. they also spend a significant portion of their lives recording videos where they're yelling in the grocery store
