My latest piece for the Spanish Wine Collective is now online (link below), this time pairing book with wine

My little contribution this month to @spanishwinecoll.bsky.social. My wine of the week whisked me to Valencia whilst sat at my dining table planning 2025 trips! A little sunshine as we crawl into spring. www.spanishwinecollective.com/blog/casalab...

Wine of the week. Chris Lynch goes to one of our favourite producers Rafael Cambra, and opens his Casalabor, a tinto made with the local variety Arcos. An elegant wine with flavours of red fruits and herbs, that evokes warmer days by the Mediterranean. www.spanishwinecollective.com/blog/casalab...

My report for the @spanishwinecoll.bsky.social on three days of wine tasting at Barcelona Wine Week, Vinos "Off the Record" and Liquid Vins. With some favourite wines highlighted. www.spanishwinecollective.com/blog/wineday...

@adrianmcmanus.bsky.social visits D.O. Ribeiro, one of the oldest wine regions in Europe for our wine of the week. Tostado is a unique sweet wine from Adegas Celme, which has been rescued from oblivion and now formally recognised by the appellation. www.spanishwinecollective.com/blog/celme-t...

José Luis Rodríguez Martínez takes us on a tour of five Madrid taverns that offer an opportunity to relive the atmosphere of the past. These authentic places combine a rich and exciting history with a contemporary take on great Spanish wine. www.spanishwinecollective.com/blog/five-hi...

Domaine Sérol Chez Coste 2023 kicking off my 2025 Loire road trip with @billboll.bsky.social Unsulfured Gamay St-Romain, fermented & aged in amphora. Deeply coloured with a lingering savoury freshness, this waltzed with peppery pork sausage and then made friends among tonight’s cheeses. Santé !

Chez Coste 2023 (12.5%). Kicking off 2025’s journey through the wines of the Loire with @amicdelvi.bsky.social. A beautiful expression of the Gamay St-Romain variety by Domaine Sérol. Lovely purity and transparency. Supple tannins, texture and hint of spice. A graceful and delightful wine.

I had a great time earlier this month visiting one of the oldest and most traditional bodegas in Jerez de la Frontera. Perhaps less well-known than some of the 'big names', yet the wines and the overall experience was memorable.

My substack piece on the Trump inauguration and his courtiers and grovellers: mattcarr.substack.com/p/at-the-cou...

Musk's fascist salutes are a signal, showing how far he intends to go. They point to the destruction of democracy he seeks, the impunity, the violent pursuit of power. They point to the empire he wants to build, and to the degradation of all our lives as he sets out to crush our humanity.

Wine of the week is the Albahra 2023 by Envínate. It’s a wine that almost everyone seems to like. And as @clynch83.bsky.social writes, a success with a guest who describes it as a ‘hip wine’. www.spanishwinecollective.com/blog/albahra...

One of the most impressive wines we tasted last weekend in Jerez de la Frontera. ‘Caberrubia’ Fino (14.5%) by Bodegas Luis Perez. An unfortified fino made from a blend of different vintages from the La Barajuela parcel. Rich, concentrated and savoury with a long, long finish. Really outstanding.

Delicious Fino de Heredad de Hidalgo by Bodegas Hidalgo la Gitana. An unusual edition from Club Contubernio: a Fino made by a sanlqueño bodega. The palomino grapes come from a vineyard inside the boundary of Jerez, and the wine has a more jerezano Fino character than a Manzanilla from Sanlúcar.

A masterclass in Carinyena Blanca from Nin-Ortiz (Porrera, Priorat), the Planetes (2021) is an old friend re-encountered. White fruit and flowers, almond and stone, salt and seduction over time (give it an hour or two, and go to bed happy). Salut, i bona nit!

Why is anyone still on X? Government, public organisations and major companies should at the very least be platform neutral. Presence on a platform like X gives it legitimacy and engages audience.

Easing myself into 2025 with book and bottle, a bit of prep for the virtual road trip (east–west) along the Loire that I’ll be doing over the next 12 months in the company of @billboll.bsky.social (Long-term forecast: wine porn imminent)
