Since the ‘90s, tech companies have been virtually immune from lawsuits over what’s posted on their platforms, even though their algorithms are amplifying misinformation, hate, and dangerous content that incites violence. Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes joins John Avalon.

Unpopular opinion: The Super Bowl is all hype... and no substance.

To those of you cheering that we're taking our country back, let me inform you: it's not "our" country; it's not even your country. This is TRUMP'S COUNTRY now; and you just live here!

Canada: Okay! Okay! We'll join America. But all of your road signs will have to be in French and kilometers.

podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/m... Under the Constitution, members of Congress are supposed to engage in cross-partisan bargaining—yet they’re failing at this very basic job. Yuval Levin joins John to discuss some remedies...

www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv... The greatest harm done by tariffs is concealed in a way that prevents most of us from seeing the harm directly.

I had high hopes that Susie Wiles could talk Trump out of imposing tariffs, since tariffs ultimately hurt American consumers. But since Trump's evidently been promoted to "God", I guess not; there is nothing that will dissuade him from acting on his worst impulses. 🙁

Keep going. Tyranny is eroded by a sea of small acts. Everything matters.

Did I just hear Pres. Trump say the word "bullshit" on live television?

Today’s show was my last at CNN. My closing message: It’s never a good time to bow down to a tyrant… don’t give in to the lies. Don’t give in to fear. Hold on to the truth… and hope.

CNN's Jim Acosta signing off: "I will not give in to the lies. I will not give into the fear. Post it on your social media so people can hear from you too." I will not give in to the lies. I will not give into the fear. Post it on your social media so people can hear from you too. Pass it on.

Good point. “Tariff” won’t mean much to lots of people. “Import tax” is better. Or Trump tax.

www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc... You are no longer a pundit or a provocateur: From today, your fellow citizens are trusting you with the lives of their children. The rest of us are trusting you with all our lives.

AMERICANS LIKE TO THINK there’s something special about our country that keeps us free. But that freedom is guaranteed only on paper. All it takes to dismantle our constitutional system and our liberties is one bully and a party full of cowards...

Whenever I start to feel anxious I immediately have another coffee and scroll through the worst news imaginable on my phone and omg it does not help at all

From Walt Kelly's POGO: I'm going to keep coming back to this panel over the next 4 years: "No set of rules can do one thing: it can't guarantee what will happen AFTER [you] speak." Those who continue to report the facts, and to those of us who dare criticize Trump, had better get used to that. 😕

Gulf of America? All that is, is a "shibboleth": Its sole purpose is so that Pres. Trump and his MAGA base can determine, among the populace, who is likely to be "loyal"; or whom they may deem as being "un-American".

Best economy in decades ,record stock market and low unemployment. Trump :: tomorrow ends the American decline .

www.theatlantic.com/internationa... Thus have Americans who voted for Trump because of the putatively high price of eggs now precipitated a political crisis in Scandinavia.

The people who want to invade Greenland are the same ones who think it’s too cold to go outside for an inauguration.

Some tough commentary from Five Thirty Eight... 🙁

podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t... With just days remaining in President Joe Biden’s term, the crew reflects on the past four years and tries to determine how this administration will be remembered. What were the high points, the low points and the most notable moments?...

Unpopular opinion: I, for one, do not see the withdrawal from Afghanistan as Pres. Biden's one foreign policy blunder. It had to happen; it was going to be messy regardless. Could it have been done better? Of course. But tell me Donald Trump would have handled the withdrawal any better!
