The problem with negotiating with the USA is that Trump does not and never has kept his word on any agreement after it is signed if the results are not what he expected or he changes his mind. He has always done this. Nations expect a small measure of integrity in keeping agreements. No longer.

After 9-11, Ukraine allowed use of its airspace and airbases to the US and its allies. Ukraine was a participant in the NATO-led Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan and deployed troops as part of NATO's mission. It also contributed medical personnel. Ukraine is an ally. Not a punching bag.
