I agree with this - the "justification" is total nonsense. We already know there are ads The Age has rejected for political reasons. We also know there's plenty of political messaging they would reject in future. Just admit you want the cash, don't try and pretend it's a thoughtful moral position.

I've worked for Nine a bit. This week they've run Clive Palmer ads attacking trans people, migrants, and Welcome to Country ceremonies. This is a company that "strives to create an inclusive workplace" and maintains "zero tolerance for vilification and victimisation of any kind" 🙃

'As a percentage of median household disposable income (adjusted for household size), our benefits have fallen by more than any other of 24 high-income OECD countries.'

Living below the poverty line forces people to choose between things such as safety, food, healthcare costs, housing costs, utilities. Keeping this payment so low harks back to the deserving and undeserving, and the things that are unaffordable are basic human rights. #auspol

I suppose the story right above the Palmer ad is an ad that The Age can be bought if the price is right.

I have no idea what any of this means.

Sorry (I'm not) to go on about this, but I just can't stop thinking about "weighed up against other priorities and fiscal challenges". If your priorities don't include "keeping our most vulnerable community members safe and alive", you shouldn't be allowed to set foot in Parliament House.

Prominent HIV advocate David Polson, who was was one of the first 400 men diagnosed with HIV in Australia in the 1980s, has been remembered as a community warrior at a service in Sydney.

I mean, I'm not really sure these will lead to work that I can DO, but the First Aid/CPR training is just a potential good thing for the community.

We are in the highest estimated level of poverty since 2001. Every day that Labor doesn't raise the rate is a complete betrayal and utter disgrace.

One actual good thing? I got my First Aid Statement of Attainment last week, paid for by my DES provider. In 5 (I think?) years of DES providers, this & paying for my Working With Children Check are the only 2 useful things they've ever done.

Successfully walked the tightrope in my Disability Employment Services appointment. Have seemingly convinced my new caseworker I'm keen while also explaining why I can't do the things she's suggesting. Of course, her suggestions are pretty much the same as the last few caseworkers. De ja vu.

Someone please ask literally any of these gormless fucks for an itemised list of exactly what clothing, food, medicine, and ACCOMMODATION they think $180 is going to buy them. Are they offering up their own rentals and airbnbs on the cheap? Is the clothing a balaclava, to assist with theft?

Definitely not a Labor Liberal National Party stitch up though.

Looking forward to Clive Palmer's next ad: "Women belong in the kitchen."

This is incoherent and embarrassing. Especially because there absolutely certain political viewpoints The Age would not allow to be published. www.theage.com.au/politics/fed...

"The claim in the advertisement ... is simplistic and hurtful to many ... The ad is an unhelpful & provocative contribution to the national discussion that this masthead does not endorse." - The Age's own editorial bizarrely defending taking the $ while attacking ad www.theage.com.au/politics/fed...

Once again they hear "harrowing" testimony and make their recommendations and @jimchalmers.bsky.social and @AmandaRishworth go "meh" and the person has been exploited for their story for nothing.

After Newcastle did this yesterday and got complaints, today, The Age ran the exact same ad on their front page. Nobody should be running this ad as it's a disgrace of political advertising targetting an already marginalised group. This is just adding fuel to a fire that needs some reprieve.

Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment is still paid at the same rate as when it was introduced in 2006: $1,000 for adults and $400 for children. The other federal gov payment - Disaster Recovery Allowance - is paid at the rate of JobSeeker/Youth Allowance www.aph.gov.au/About_Parlia...

We reject today's Exclusion Committee report & support for "mutual" obligations. "It's impossible to have a system where people can be cut off their income that doesn't cause harm. The report is a shameful piece of work that peddles 'dole bludger' narratives" apcentre.substack.com/p/antipovert...

I would add to this that Albanese deciding to label the attack terrorism has turned out to be bad politics. This would have been an absolute humiliation for Dutton if Albanese had been more circumspect and actually gone with what the police were saying

I cannot trust the new #NDIS budget approach when I’m still trying to substantiate evidence for the existing Autism TSP’s problematic assumptions about my needs. As Justin Warren put it, “trust is earned…too few agencies want to do the work to earn that trust.” @jeremynadel8.bsky.social #Auspol

Not aimed at anyone specific but noticing a lot of writers/women’s/ideas festivals that still don’t include issues around fatness or fat women speaking on other things! With ozempic & TikTok’s rising pro anorexia shit, it’s a very good time to include fat ppl in your thoughts, projects & politics!

There's inclusion and then there's Zombies.

Always grateful to hear feedback like this. Thank you, doc.

What @antipovertycentre.org said: We need payments above the Henderson poverty line We need all compulsory activities such as “mutual” obligations abolished. We need every person who needs income support to be able to access it. apcentre.substack.com/p/antipovert...

🇦🇺 A friend is applying for #DSP with disabling chronic illnesses. Does anyone have any tips or advice for them? [I have no experience in the DSP because I'm ineligible by having a working hubby 😕.]

The government's own economic inclusion advisory committee just recommended raising the rate again. Labor must immediately raise the rate of income support lest they ignore their own advisory committee THREE times running.

Antipoverty Centre rejects shameful report from economic "inclusion" committee Another report that excludes poor people – the real experts in poverty – causes more harm than good apcentre.substack.com/p/antipovert...
