A privilege to be ashed and then to ash Parliamentarians and staff at the Ash Wednesday service in St Mary’s Undercroft. “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return. Turn away from sin and be faithful to Christ.”

The Bishop of Norwich asked a question on Ukraine in the @houseoflords.parliament.uk yesterday, commending British leadership but expressing disappointment that the important uplift in defence spending came from the overseas development budget. Question and answer here:

The Bishop of Norwich, who is leading prayers in the @houseoflords.parliament.uk this week, took part in a Q&A session on publishing revised guidance for schools on relationship, sex and health education. He asked about plans to address the causes of violence against women and girls:

This new fun animation carries lots of important info for churches looking to be bright, warm and welcoming, using less energy. Net zero is good for the people in our churches and good for the whole of creation. Take a look - and find out more at www.churchofengland.org/about/enviro...

Coverage of a service last week for Ukrainian soldiers training in Norfolk in the EDP today. @bishopnorwich.bsky.social, the Rt Revd Graham Usher, addressed the congregation and gave the final blessing. www.dioceseofnorwich.org/bishop-joins...

This week it is a privilege to lead prayers daily in the House of Lords. I get to choose a psalm from a selection (today Psalm 15 seemed appropriate), then pray for The King, The Royal Family and Parliament, seeking “thy Heavenly Wisdom from above to direct and guide us in all our consultations.”

Marking World Wildlife Day thankful for the diversity of life on earth. I’m committed to playing my part in its protection, conservation and restoration. Today in 1973 the UN adopted the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

As President Zelensky visits HM The King in Norfolk today, prayers ascend for his nation and a just peace. In the words of the Book of Common Prayer, may they know “that peace which the world cannot give” & “being defended from the fear of [their] enemies may pass [their] time is rest & quietness”.

A profoundly moving serving on Monday - the 3rd anniversary of enemy aggression - with Ukrainians on a five week course with the British Army to become soldiers. I gave each an olive wood holding cross as we prayed for the departed and a just peace. www.dioceseofnorwich.org/bishop-joins...

Tonight I will be joining Ukrainian soldiers, training in Norfolk with the Irish Guards, marking this sad 3rd anniversary of the invasion of their nation. We will say the litany of the dead. Please join with me in praying for these brave soldiers, the people of Ukraine, and for a just peace.

A carpet of spring joy at Bishop’s House garden.

An invitation for 18-35 year old from @dioceseofnorwich.bsky.social to join me on a pilgrimage to Taizé this July.

Just had the most inspiring Zoom call with Archbishop Dr Jackson ole Sapit of Kenya - he tells me that the Anglican Church of Kenya has planted 8 million trees in the last 3 years to mark baptisms, confirmations, birthdays, ordinations, weddings and funerals. Incredible achievement.

A good visit to Blakeney (currently looking for a vicar - deadline this week), including planting a Rowan tree, then a bracing walk across the marshes where at Cley they are cutting reeds for thatch in the time-honoured way.

On March 13th I have the privilege of interviewing the Bishop of Norwich, who is an ecologist, author and Church of England lead on nature and environment. It’s a @FelbeckTrust evening event, taking place in Holt Church. Details: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/nature-and... and at felbecktrust.org.uk

A happy service @norwichcathedral.bsky.social installing new Lay Canon Ann, and Honorary Canons - Stephen, Alaric, Lynn and Matthew.

Good to license Malcolm Rogers at St Clement’s Burnham Overy Town, one of the churches in the Burnham benefice. Parishes hearing Jesus’ call to go out into deeper water in faith and trust.

Yesterday in the House of Lords, the Bishop of Norwich spoke on the issue of sewage pollution. “The choking of our river courses with sewage, and swimmers and surfers dodging ‘floaters’, needs not only our lament, but a culture change in the industry..." www.dioceseofnorwich.org/the-bishop-o...

Excellent new videos about the Church Commissioners’ approach to land and nature across our forestry and farmland assets. Worth a watch to see our commitment to working in partnership with tenants and others to enhance biodiversity. www.churchofengland.org/about/govern...

A valuable briefing in Parliament from Royal Navy and @lukepollard.bsky.social , Minister for the Armed Forces, about the threat of underwater cable warfare. Holding a UK energy cable cut by a hostile overseas threat. The Minister is holding a data cable.

Good to license Andrew Avery to the Somerleyton benefice. Well supported by the deanery and clergy from @elydiocese.bsky.social - who I’m told want a transfer fee.

It was great to be with you and to confirm Barry, Kitty, Sam and Ben - and to find that in the congregation was the vicar who prepared me for confirmation over 40 years ago!

A beautiful and moving farewell service for Bishop Martin Seeley at St Edmundsbury Cathedral. Martin has been a wise and pastoral neighbour, and tonight’s tributes were wonderfully heartfelt.

A wooden bowl made from churchyard yew by a woodturner called Brian Wooden, was admired by the Pope this month. Brian, of Kessingland, near Lowestoft, said he was delighted that the Bishop of Norwich thought his bowl was a suitable gift for Pope Francis. www.dioceseofnorwich.org/gift-fit-for...

Spent part of yesterday with the Norvic flock! Filming a piece about the Bishop’s Lent Appeal for the Norfolk charity YANA - You Are Not Alone - which does much to provide mental health support in our rural communities.

Pope Francis says that “bishops must be shepherds with the smell of the sheep”.

"Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the little faces of the children, whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky.” - Wiesel

Very good to be at Thornham in the Hunstanton and Saxon Shore Benefice this morning, reflecting on being the body of Christ today and praying that God will send them a new vicar. A warm and friendly congregation with lunch afterwards.

On the eve of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity this was a memorable pilgrimage with the Ecumenical Church Leaders Group from Norfolk and Waveney. Thanks to ⁦Benedictine monk Martin Browne for organisation and warmth of hospitality.

Our #pilgrimage concluded with meeting staff at the Dicastery for Integral Human Development with migration and #environmental issues being high priorities as we seek life in all its fullness for all. Then to the modern martyrs’ church of St Bartholomew on Tiber island.

Our ecumenical #pilgrimage to #Rome included visiting the archaeological excavations of the necropolis under St Peter’s Basilica, praying at St Peter’s tomb, refugee memorial art, and excellent dialogue with @martinbrowneosb.bsky.social at the Dicastery for the Promotion of Christian Unity.

It was a joy yesterday, as part of an ecumenical church leaders’ pilgrimage, from Norfolk and Waveney, to greet Pope Francis and give him a bowl carved by Brian Wooden from a yew tree from @dioceseofnorwich.bsky.social Yew is an ancient tree commonly found in English churchyards.

It's been good to collaborate with @operationnoah.bsky.social on this valuable resource.

An excellent pilgrimage day seeing the Doria Pamphilj gallery the Anglican Centre in Rome, the Jubilee Door and Apostle’s tomb at St Paul’s Outside the Walls, and conversations at the Pontifical Beda College.

Very appreciative of the welcome at Castel Gandolfo to meet Cardinal Baggio and Fr Durantes, and see the Papal gardens and farm which will showcase Pope Francis’ commitment to the care of our common home.
