None of us is separate from the ocean, in the absolute sense. In the relative sense, it's wise to have strong open water swimming skills and a wetsuit rated for the current water temperature before diving in (I love swimming in the ocean). 😁

Of course, this is not how it works. We cannot create separation while trying to dispel the delusion of separation.🤣

Just wrapped up a four day long engaged compassion retreat. 🙏🙏🙏

🤣

There are indeed 3 different sects of Buddhism, and within each there are many different schools. Find the one that allows you to most effectively deepen your practice. 🙏🙏🙏

This is a great article.

🤣

Strive to not strive while sitting zazen. 😆🙏

Deal! 🤣

Practicing non-attachment.

Making a "hobby of outrage" instead of actively finding ways to help (not just once, but as often as arises from mindful awareness) falls into what is called "virtue signaling." That type of behavior goes against the 7th Precept. Let's all work together to find ways to take positive action. 🙏🙏🙏

"It’s not enough just to know the definition of bodhisattva and read about them. What’s much more important is to understand the actions of a bodhisattva and then to behave like one yourself; walk the path." -Kosho Uchiyama Roshi, “The Bodhisattva Vow: Eight Views”

“Sit immovably in the place where being superior or inferior to others doesn’t matter.” -Kosho Uchiyama Roshi (Photo of Shōhaku Okumura Roshi, Sanshin Zen Center, Bloomington, IN)

It's a liberating practice to step back for a second and ask ourselves the question "Am I taking myself too seriously lately?" 🤣

"Renunciation is realizing that our nostalgia for wanting to stay in a protected, limited, petty world is insane. Once you begin to get the feeling of how big the world is and how vast our potential for experiencing life is, then you begin to understand renunciation." - Master Pema Chödrön

"Samsara actually refers to the confused inner world of our emotions, judgments, opinions, expectations, and actions influenced by these confusions. This is why we practice The Way: to see that all of our problems are self-created and thus have the potential to be self-liberated.” -Phakchok Rinpoche

This should be interesting!

深深的敬意!Honoring Master Sheng Yen (1931-2009), who died sixteen years ago today. One of the two most impactful Taiwanese Ch'an (Zen masters) of the 20th Century. 🙏🙏🙏

“Our sense of ego distorts awareness of our true nature, so even when we think we’re in the present, we’re “thinking” about the present. We’re not actually EXPERIENCING here and now. We start comparing and judging. Blinded by conceptual thought.” - Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo

🥰

"To be a monk is to make time to practice for your transformation and healing. And after that to help with the transformation and healing of other people." - Thich Nhat Hanh (Photo of a member of The Order of Zen Peacemakers walking the perimeter at Auschwitz concentration camp).

“Other labels”. 🙏

Indeed it is. 🥰

“The practice of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva is to listen very deeply to every kind of sound, including the sound of pain from within and from without. When learn how to listen deeply and how to breathe deeply in mindfulness, everything becomes clear.” ~ Master Thích Nhất Hạnh

Now that I have made this Bluesky we all share my only social media home, I thought it would be a lovely idea to create a starter pack for Buddhism/Meditation/Yoga. Please feel free to suggest more accounts for this starter pack. go.bsky.app/Tmrt5io #buddhism #meditation #yoga #zen #mindfulness

The timing for this article's publication could not be more perfect, based on what is happening in the world today! I learned about the brahmaviharas about 8 years ago, and they have certainly helped inform my practice. tricycle.org/article/brah...
