Me singing soothingly in a whisper voice to the baby to the tune of J-Kwon’s Tipsy: “Everybody in the crib getting Sleepy”

It’s funny to me to think of media today being “woke” when compared to 80s/90s action movies. Rambo, Predator, and Alien franchises all explore themes like toxic masculinity, colonialism, feminism, and capitalist horrors. Yet they are often presented as a sort of lauded machismo.

SCOTUS rules, 7-2, that detainees the Administration suspects of being TdA members, and wants to deport under the Alien Enemies Act, need more notice that was given and cannot at present be deported. Kavanaugh concurs. Alito & Thomas dissent. supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

Stephen Miller looks like Pauley Shore’s evil twin.

Niche tweet, but a late night thought. Does a panpsychist have to trolley problem all their food? Like a salad would be way more problematic than a pork chop, right?

If they don’t pick an American Pope it’s boots on the ground by Saturday.

How do I put this into my IOLTA account?

Am I spending more time watching the Sistine Chapel Chimney Live Cam than I have spent in church this year? Yes. That’s being a cradle Catholic.

Sucks that the Met Gala is raising all this money just to pay it to Bobby Bonilla

Welcome to Earth, Sturgill.

Night. Mare.

My son was born on the Day of San Jordi, celebrated in Catalonia as the Day of Books and Roses. When I lived in Barcelona, the streets would be flooded with vendors selling red roses and books. What a fantastic day to be born :)

A colleague emailed me today to flag the fact that the superb Fourth Circuit Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson ended a quotidian insurance opinion with an unusually introspective conclusion.

Had a baby boy arrive in this world today. Guess I have to work a little harder to make sure it isn’t a total pit of doom out there.

Wishing Pope Francis the best of luck in his performance review with his boss today. Hope he gets a raise.

Reupping again because Pipe Frank is the ultimate hater if his last two moves before death were to suggest Trump is building himself his own hell and JD Vance isn’t worth a private visit. One of the best popes in my lifetime.

Re-upping this from yesterday since Pope Frank is also a Vance hater.

I’m not religious anymore, but I still consider myself culturally Catholic, if that makes any sense at all. The Pope being an all-time hater makes me hold on a little longer.

I want to start a new series called The Malcolm X-Files. It’s all about wildly implausible conspiracies against poor and minority communities at the hand of the government. It’s a docu-series.

Holy shit. Did not expect to wake up to this.

If they actually do this, I think it will pay dividends for the party.

This is a natural consequence of the judiciary’s deference to the State for at least decades. QI made up out of whole cloth. Overbearing standards to sue them. Procedural labyrinths. No wonder the State thinks it owns the judiciary—it has for as long as all of those lawyers have practiced.

The way I’d rather be unemployed than be a DOJ lawyer opposing the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia from the prison in El Salvador. Like how does a paycheck mean that much to you? Couldn’t be me.

Public service announcement: which firms have stood up to Trump (the vast majority, but not the biggest ones) and which ones have signed up to offer him free legal services. Just in case you want to decide where to work or who to hire docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

We are having a baby very soon. Due date less than three weeks. Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield didn’t reach an agreement with the university where our labor and delivery doc is, so they are now out of network. Anthem refuses to confirm if we qualify for continuity of care coverage. Fuck. This. Shit.

lol. Of course the one he added a journalist into wasn’t the only one. I really hope there are other uninvited guests still to speak up.

Why is it always “the Ten Commandments belong in schools and our state buildings!” and never the beatitudes? Is it maybe because these people don’t really believe in the actual teachings of their god?

Paige Bueckers has set a new UConn WBB record for points in an NCAA Tournament game in today's win over Oklahoma 🔥 ◽ 40 PTS ◽ 16/27 FG ◽ 6/8 3-PT FG

Maybe the wildest Supreme Court audition yet: Andrew Oldham suggests Biden was too senile to grant pardons, and ALSO does a "history and tradition" analysis to conclude that granting clemency to people convicted of murder is actually unconstitutional (??) ballsandstrikes.substack.com/p/supreme-co...

Dems for 4 years: We can’t pack SCOTUS or make judicial reforms! The republicans will just make things worse after we do that! Republicans no matter what:

I keep trying to convince my therapist that violence actually IS the answer. She hasn’t agreed yet, but I feel like we’re making progress.

The funny thing about this case is that people are seeing what it’s like to litigate against the government. The only thing unusual about these tactics is that they are directed at the judge instead of the plaintiff.

One problem with the idea of reserving due process for law-abiding people is that due process is how we figure out which people are law-abiding.

They're called public records for a reason. Starting today, WIRED will *stop paywalling* articles that are primarily based on public records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, becoming the first publication to partner with @freedom.press to offer this for our new coverage.
