Enjoyed Sunday's book club hosted by #DeadInkBookstore A thoughtful, often funny portrait of a woman dealing with her past while on a cross country train from Liverpool. The housing crisis, hiking, M & S and the movie Wetherby featured. More northern lit please. Any recommendations?

Definitely a memorable reading experience. The ending made me laugh - cathartic - after living among these miserable, deluded, selfishly obsessed characters for almost 800 pages. The intro is exquisite and there are some magical scenes but whew, glad to move on. 12/2025 #NYRBWomen25

Finished a zombie novel about the end of the world this morning as an alternative to reading the news. And it's as good as everyone says it is. Book 11/2025 #FitzcarraldoEditions #ZombieLit

Almost embarassed by how teary I got during the latest Bridget Jones - god, that first one meant so much to me at the time. Can't believe how long ago that was. Still, despite all the silliness you can't help loving her optimism; we all want to cross the Thames, head held high.

youtu.be/ss4AF91KOFw?... Enjoying FACT Picturehouse's Noir Sundays. Kiss Me Deadly today - did not see the Whatsit coming. . .

Nothing like British wool. There's a sweater or two in this.

Blackpool is decidedly grey and chilly in February. Good thing there's a wool show on.

Book 10/2025: The White Book by Han Kang, trans. by Deborah Smith Wanted to start with an earlier work. Very poetic and there's a stark beauty alongside the gnawing sadness of loss whenever she contemplates white in nature or within the simplicity of rice or a pebble. Eager to read more.

Throwback to Monday when I needed a break from the busy city and spent a lovely hour in The Poetry Pharmacy on Oxford St. And I'd never read Mary Oliver before - perfect for slow, thoughtful reading. Ninth book for 2025 but rereading with a pencil to highlight favourite lines.

Fabulous Tirzah Garwood exhibit at Dulwich Picture Gallery. Loved her whimsical paintings, her intricate 3D collages, detailed lithographs and embroideries and beautiful marbled papers. What a multi-talented artist. Definitely go if you are in London.

When in Daunt. . . Thanks @jacquiwine.bsky.social for the Gornick recommendation #DauntBooks #IndieBookshops #LondonBookshops

Clever, funny, provocative, full of contemporary resonance and great performances from all three actors. What a treat especially to see Nicola Walker on stage - always admire her work.

Made a special trip to visit Libreria near Spitalfields market - gosh, what a beautiful bookshop and beautifully curated collection of interesting books. Go for the books, then pop into the market for some awesome food and lovely clothing stalls. #ShopIndies #IndieBookshops

Indie bookshops are just killing it. Stumbled on this one yesterday in Oxford's Covered Market. Super cute name, small but cozy reading nooks upstairs and a free coffee if you buy one of their staff table recommendations.

Really beautiful art exhibit of Hélène de Beavoir's art at the Amar Gallery. Captivated by her paintings of skiers and maybe skaters in this one?

Definitely in the mood . . . I never pass up the chance to see this on the big screen. #PictureHouse

Been thinking about Canada and childhood winters the last few days and this collection encapsulates both. Book 7 of 2025

Another engrossing movie from Mike Leigh. So many painful moments when just the slightest of gestures could have made all the difference. Great performances.

January reading and the beginning of my reading journal epp project. Each 2" square represents 50 pages with the fabric picked to represent either a cover feature or a scene in the book.

I have always thought Marianne Faithful had the perfect voice for this song - it's my favourite rendition. Her recordings of Kurt Weill's work are also wonderful. youtu.be/t7SfcARX_nQ?...

Can't stop reading these - so much fun.

An interesting doublebill - you couldn't find two films more different from each other that both reference the Holocaust. I loved the first and admire the second though it was very hard to watch at times.

How have I not heard of Helen Weinzweig before? Loved this strange, fearless, funny, imaginative, vulnerable woman walking through the Toronto of my childhood as she searches for her lover through the game of coded messages they play. Just loved it. Need to read more Canlit this year.

Another cracker from Lorac. And with my favourite Inspector Macdonald to boot. #BritishLibraryCrimeClassics #ECRLorac

Been a long week of non-stop email. Nice to get out for a walk though I can't believe the daffodils are out in Greenbanks Park already.

Here's my current bedside table. Going to be tough to finish these two this month, but I'm enjoying revisiting Tom Jones for #AContinuation25 and I've just started Lies and Sorcery for #NYRBWomen25 - such a strong list this year - will try to read as many as I can.
