I was glad to be in Sugar Land, TX, today for the unveiling of a new historical marker about the Sugar Land 95, at the site where their unmarked graves were uncovered in 2018. An impressive group of high school students also presented their digital archive about the site.

A friendly tip: if your Following feed is a bit much (whatever that means to you), add and use the Only Posts feed. Calms things down a bit. For me. #ymmv

A year ago today, Kendrick Lamar ran Not Like Us back not 1, but 5 times 😭

'Meredith,' some guys ask, 'why won't you shove AI into Signal?' Because we love privacy, and we love you, and this shit is predictable and unacceptable. Use Signal ❤️

You know a conference quote is good when multiple people hop online to share it at the same time

I've missed The Clipse. I am the audience for all of this.

Some of y'all really don't want to do the work, and you're mad that it shows. 🤨

The news about this morning's shootings in Minnesota has me on edge about right-wing violence. Whether you are protesting or just a lefty going about your lefty business (mutual aid, organizing, etc), be alert, know who you're dealing with, and know how you would exit any place that feels unsafe.

"touch paper" is the new "touch grass." As in, read an actual fucking book.

people who just share screenshots from news stories with no links back to source and no bylines or dates in the screenshot are just engagement farming you

y'all are gonna keep showing it, huh? okay.

Some of you are discussing politics with people who are discussing liberation. It's not a debate, it's two separate conversations.

Plenty of people do nothing and are quiet about it, but why would anyone need to try to get others to be inactive with them? That's suspicious. Nobody needs to hear someone's empty ramblings about why others shouldn't care about issues that affect them.

I uninstalled all sm apps this weekend. I reinstalled this morning. Y'all are wilding. Like for real. And. I'm gonna continue my weekend uninstalls. Because, yeah.

Copying and pasting from mtmvcommunity's IG post, because it's true across situations: "Just because something is publicly available doesn't mean it has to be publicly shared." 1/3

🧵.

Remember: If unions didn’t matter, powerful corporations wouldn’t spend millions of dollars every year to stop workers from organizing. Keep up the fight.

As many of us people who study or work in tech tried to tell y’all, move fast & break things was always about POWER, not progress.

Y'all, what is going on?

This seems right. Rupture is also an invitation for intervention, in the Marxian-Althusserian sense. Black radical activists, Dalits activists, anticapitalist solidarity activists are the ones who seem to really get this.

I don’t what comes next for universities, but I cannot imagine returning to the 2024 status quo and I don’t think you should either. I’d like to read more on the post-grant-funded university.

A personal epiphany: As someone who grew up in a Black community in the 80s and 90s, I have experienced institutional loss multiple times. Now I am observing colleagues that are experiencing this for the first time as full-grown adults...and they are freaking out. We were never the same.

DC job alert.

Toxic pesticide levels found in tampons 40 times higher than legal limit for water

Bruh, what?!

It's been a couple wks since the various reports of Trump's incursions at the LoC. In that time, I've been backing up the OCR text of Chronicling America, just in case I documented my process on my blog. Just sharing in case others want/need to back up Chron Am for their own peace of mind
