I wanted to comment on this new piece on how firing bureaucrats ➡️ dictatorship. This is important research & you should read it. BUT, it is focusing mainly on cases where dictators succeeded. Are there important differences between these cases & the US? A 🧵 👇 theconversation.com/firing-civil...

seems pretty definitive when even a National Front type just calls out the salute for what it is

Damn! The leopard just ate another face. “I thought we were supposed to be in a new era of meritocracy. Not the indiscriminate firing of people,” said one Republican congressional aide granted anonymity to speak candidly. www.politico.com/news/2025/02...

@mapquest.com has created a website where you can also rename the Gulf to whatever you want. Check out Colbert Show's coverage of this tactic.

I appreciate @kim.senate.gov’s frankness - I just wish they’d all listened to the warnings & not hid their heads in political sand. When people tell you who they are… “Sen. Andy Kim (D-N.J.), meanwhile, told Migrant Insider that he regrets voting to confirm Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem…”

This is a great visualization and finding. And note how the biggest outlier is the one they immediately reversed once they realized the nuclear weapons people probably aren't all that woke. Not because they realized it was essential. Because they realized they'd mistargeted their political purge.

“After we’ve discriminated against, deported, or disparaged all the immigrants, the gay and lesbian and transgender people, the developmentally disabled, the women, and minorities. Once we’ve ostracized our neighbors and betrayed our friends… what comes next?” - Gov. JB Pritzker

I deeply hope cis people start paying attention to how this government is beginning to interact with us. In an official capacity.

Donald Trump isn't interested in a smaller government, he wants a weaponized government. He doesn't want fewer federal employees, he just wants them loyal to him.

This is just one of thousands of harrowing stories told about the U.S. Government abandoning Americans abroad in the USAID shutdown. This is Benghazi times a million. 1/

good to know that Putin will no longer have to travel all the way to Donny's Florida golf motel to get his hands on classified documents

I’ve been using Duck Duck Go and Google search interchangeably for the past couple of years. Yesterday I removed Google search and Google Maps from my phone. I now use DDG exclusively for search and HERE WeGo wego.here.com for maps. You should, too.

Click on the magnifying glass icon in your browser bar, then select "DuckDuckGo" as your default search engine.

NEW: The chief information officers of at least three major government agencies have been replaced by Silicon Valley executives, including from Palantir and Elon Musk's SpaceX.
